Buccaneers vs Rams Discussion

Post by Primeminister »

Tampa Bay Bucs (2-0) visit the LA Rams (2-0) this Sunday providing the toughest test yet this season. Jared Goff Matt Stanford has thrown for nearly 600 yards, but 271 of that is all Cooper Kupp. Robert Woods is their 2nd leading receiver with 91 yards. The Rams have put up 61 points to the Bucs 79. Defensively the Rams have been tougher giving up only 38 points to the Bucs 56. This game is a big next step to figuring out who our team is.

One of my good buddies is a Rams fan... I've heard all these great things about how Stafford is the answer. I watched that Colts game, I saw the same old Stafford in Detroit with better weapons around him. Missing throws, no composure.

That being said, he'll throw for 400 yards and 2 tds because well they won't even attempt to run the ball. Especially since Henderson went down late in that game.

Gonna be a huge day for the guards. Cappa/Marpet are going to need to be their very best. Jensen as well. They have a solid front 7. They're back 4... Ramsey was invisible until the pick on Eason which who knows where Eason was looking... Our weapons should overpower them, but we need Tom protected. Rojo/Fournette/Gio are going to need to play lights out.

I think we are in for a heavy dose of Robert Woods. Cooper Kupp should be double covered all day. That being said I think we may need to score 40 with this banged up secondary.

So Dean and a safety on Kupp? This isn’t a bad strategy. Like several people have pointed out though we need a pass rush. The front 4 have to get home without a blitz. If we are pulling defenders from coverage against this Rams offense we are killing ourselves.

They use Higbee(essentially a WR) pretty well too.

That didn't work last year. Davis was matched against Woods early in last years game and he simply could not keep up. Woods is the type of WR that gives Davis issues. We probably won't run much man against the Rams anyway. Their WRs are very good against man at getting open and drawing flags.

I'd love to see the running game take off and shorten the game up if we can get a lead. Aaron Donald is a bad man and I don't want to give him any chances to kill Brady we don't have to give him.

Likewise. We have to do better running the ball. Yesterday was pretty good on the ground. I think at 1 point both Rojo and Fournette were over 5 yards/carry. We need more of that.

Looking around the league there doesn't seem to be a shortage of explosive offenses who can hang 30 easy. What there does seem to be a shortage of is those teams having comparable defenses.

The Rams are one of those teams.

The Rams are a match-up nightmare. Their offense and skill players hit us right on our weakest spots. This is going to be a fantastic test for this team and I'm excited to see it. I'm expecting a lot of screen passes to AB in this one. I believe Aaron Donald is truly a special player and very much in the process of dethroning LT for the greatest defender of all time. We should avoid him when at all possible.

I'd be somewhat surprised if the Bucs win this game. The run and screen game are far too dishevelled, there's a real inconsistency with penalties, drops and turnovers as well. Additionally, the Rams offense plays precisely to what currently ails the defense.

This 2 week stretch of Rams and Pats will be a good reminder of how critical mistakes are on the road.

This looks to be the toughest game yet, but barring some catastrophic injuries, I don't think you can legitimately say you'll be "surprised" by the Bucs winning any given game this year.

That said, we are officially underdogs. Vegas has Rams -1.5.

I would say we are the most consistent high scoring team, but yes you’re correct. Also the Rams have been a near perfect matchup nightmare for us the last 2 years. They’re built to beat us.

Personally I think Donald is the GOAT DT and possibly GOAT defender period. Doing what he does from the tackle position is patently absurd. It’s tougher to gameplan for that pressure up the middle when you don’t have a mobile QB. Add in #5 for them @ CB and he will erase all short routes. Brady needs to stay away from him and live with what the defense gives. I’m expecting a big day from a combination of Godwin/AB and Gronk. If Gronk stays in for protection then Brate will have a good day. Unfortunately (for them)I think Evans or Godwin gets erased by #5 and Brady will live with that.

I'll be far closer to surprised than shocked. But yeah, given how poorly this Bucs team is playing, somewhat surprised is not only legitimate, but rather fitting.

You aren't wrong.

I think we are more talented overall but they are a poor matchup for us even if we weren't down our #2 corner. However, a good gameplan and having the pass rush show up should be enough to do that job. If we can contain Donald and Kupp, our talent advantage should win out.

If we play as sloppy as we have the first two week, we will lose this game. We've been missing too many tackles. The pass rush isn't getting home enough. There's been too much meat left on the bone in the run game. And the mental mistakes from both Rojo and Fournette have me clamoring for more Bernard.

We're lucky to be 2-0. We want to be 3-0, we gotta play our first GOOD game of the season.

Also, if Jensen commits another "I'm a big tough guy hitting the pile five seconds late" penalties, he can walk back from LA.

Rams play a ton of zone, and other than Ramsey will give up alot of shorter throws where the soft spots are.

It will be interesting to see if this Bucs offense can be successful getting chunk plays down the field vs that zone.

We have an abundance of talent at WR/TE to exploit match-ups.

Stafford is going to have 50 pass attempts this game, we'll give up some yards for sure. We MUST make sure we get some sacks and takeaways also. If so, we'll win. If not, it will be another frustrating day for the pass defense.

Ok, then I will. I guarantee a win.

However I would like us to win TOP and 3rd down conversion if that's not asking to much. I'd rather not see that as commonplace against us this year.
