How much must this suck for Rory. He just put up a 65. In his pairing, he beat Spieth by 7 and Tiger by 9. Yet all I could hear as they walked off the last green was everybody yelling for Tiger.

he probably likes it.. go out there, play golf, and no one really cares about him.. oddly might be easier to move/just be when paired with Tiger

His worst round on the PGA (79), and then withdrew (due to soreness)

Well . this will be fun (I think) .. the LIV tour starts today

Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen, Kevin Na and others have left the PGA to play this to see how it gets off the ground.

The LIV Golf Tour is the name of the start-up tour that is attempting to compete with the PGA Tour. It was commonly referred to as the "Saudi Golf League" during its early days given that it is financially backed by Saudi Arabia.

It will host eight events during its inaugural season. Pros won't have to commit to playing a full schedule and will instead be paid to play on a per-event basis. The purses for the eight total events will total $225 million — $20 million will be awarded at the first event in London — while the most notable golfers that are competing in the tour have gotten nine-figure paychecks to defect from the PGA Tour.

Oh the irony of this coming from the PGA tour commissioner
"I am certain our fans and partners -- who are surely tired of all this talk of money, money and more money -- will continue to be entertained and compelled by the world-class competition you display each and every week, where there are true consequences for every shot you take and your rightful place in history whenever you reach that elusive winner's circle," Monahan wrote.
I hope this bring anti-trust lawsuits with it.

More, including Cameron Smith, are jumping ship from the PGA to LIV. I hope it completely breaks the PGA. They have had their monopoly long enough.

it's hysterical that all of a sudden it was able to find lots more money for purses while at the same time saying it was always looking out for the players

sure PGA, sure.

Yes, I’m happy to see this as well. PGA is pulling out all the stops. They should embrace the competition instead of trying to shame it out of existence.

Seeing Tiger play well this week makes me think he has something left in the tank. It’s unreal he is in the top-20 right now given his leg. And yes, I think he can contend at Augusta. It’s the one course I think he can still win at because it’s a lot about knowledge. Imagine the story if he is in the hunt on Sunday. Just wow…the whole country would be tuned in.

Not to be a dick, but, "playing well?" Ehhh....he barely made the cut and finished 16 shots off the winner's pace. Could he have an amazing round or two? Sure. Can he put it together for 4 straight days....I'd think it's more likely not to happen.

whatever the case may be, it's nice having him in the mix.

side note.. anyone catching Full Swing on Netflix? I'm knocking out a show per night to make it last longer (that's what she said can be applied somehow). It's really good. Dives into the whole LIV Tour topic too. good stuff.

Well, at the time posted he was in top-20. Had a rough finish yesterday. And if you watched him play, he could have easily shot double-digits under par if he could make some 5-foot putts. The rust in his putter was evident. But I thought for the first 58 holes or so, yeah, he played well. Especially given his condition and rust.

I think The Masters is probably the only tournament he can seriously contend in, so I don’t think it’s a wild thought to think he can possibly be there late Sunday. That course is a lot about experience…that’s how he won in 2019. It’s how Tom Watson was a shot away from winning at Turnberry at 59 years old. But it’s all about whether his body can hold up, though.

Trying to watch this LIV golf event…it’s weird. Guys wearing shorts, music playing, phones going off in the background, half-filled crowds. Doesn’t feel like competition, more like just watching guys hit the ball around in an exhibition. It sucks because so many good players over there, but it’s painful to watch.

Masters underway. Got $100 bet on Scheffler at 8-1 and a couple smaller ones on Young (25-1) and Reed (80-1).

Tiger a trainwreck so far.

I can go months without getting a golf notification on my phone. I got 3 this morning about this. Didn't realize the PGA had a secession from the union and some former members created a rival. I wish the NFL would do the same.

LIV is a Saudi-backed owner driven league. PGA was known as a player driven league. This rivalry, as short-lived as it was, was extremely bitter and pitted tradition against novelty. As much as it was about money.

Seems like PGA fans aren’t too happy about pro golf being owned by oil saudis now. Though many of them seem to acknowledge that something had to change with professional golf, given the age demographic issues that are around the corner.

Saudis are buying a pro sports left and right. F1, golf, wrestling, all the huge soccer teams in Europe…

LIV was doing terrible in ratings and their sponsorships were drying up. Many were predicting them to go under...why would the PGA save them?

The last LIV major tournament (not to be confused with a Major) went to a playoff...and multiple stations switched to a re-run of some old Sitcom. I don't really understand why the PGA did this.

Yes, this seems to be the question. Just how much money were the Saudis willing to hemorrhage in this battle? When nobody was even watching. A lot of people think the PGA sold their souls.

PGA seemed desperate to pull back their star players that left, but the Saudis were just writing checks...they could have forever, but would they have?

Now the Saudis struck gold.
