Now official: The 2023 NFL regular season schedule will be released Thursday, May 11th.
Among the changes to the schedule this season:
NFL will have a Black Friday game for the first time ever.
Games don’t necessarily “belong” to networks anymore. All games are free agents.
Teams can be on Thursday Night Football twice.
Not all teams are guaranteed to have a primetime spot.

If the Bucs play in Europe it will be a home game!
Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
Abolish Thursday night football for the love of God
Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
First thing I thought. The games are awful, the players absolute hate them, and although I haven't seen the studies, I have to believe they lead to injuries.

Let's roll another joint
And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I got to go..."

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
What does that even mean? Between Fox, CBS? Or like are we going to have all networks including NBC, ABC and ESPN televise at 1pm and 4pm?

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
You both hit it right on the head. They lead to injuries due to player exhaustion and not being fully recovered from minor injuries from the previous week.
Only on opening week and Thanksgiving Day should Thursday football be played. And the teams that have to play on Thanksgiving should have their bye week the week before.

It used to be that CBS televised AFC games and Fox NFC games. Interconference games were televised by the network of the visiting team's conference.Central_Buc wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 7:50 pmWhat does that even mean? Between Fox, CBS? That's no longer the case. Both networks can televise whoever they want. IMO, both networks should be having a double header every Sunday as opposed to the first and last Sunday of the season.

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
Thanksgiving and the opening game featuring the defending Super Bowl champions should be the only Thursday games. NFL won’t turn down the extra money unfortunately, but TNF has always been a trash product. I don’t watch anymore unless the Bucs are playing and even then I had to work during our TNF against the Ravens last year (thank god).Central_Buc wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 7:47 pmI'm in. The first part I knew, been watching the game since the early 90s. I (we all) noticed the change last year when some AFC games were televised on Fox and some NFC games on CBS.BuccaNOLEer wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 1:13 pmIt used to be that CBS televised AFC games and Fox NFC games. I guess it looks like going forward, starting this year, is going to be a mix. Maybe all local stations are trying to split 50/50 with their market like for example, CBS in Tampa wants half of Buc games and Fox Tampa the other half, along with all other markets and their teams.

Looks like the league’s band aid for shitty TNF is to stop guaranteeing teams a prime time game.

It goes beyond just keeping the bad teams off TNF. It’s hard to get peak NFL football when everyone involved is on a short week, plus the added chance of injury playing another game on just three days rest.Deja Entendu wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 2:55 pm Looks like the league’s band aid for shitty TNF is to stop guaranteeing teams a prime time game.

Get ready for 17 Sunday games…most of which will be at 1pm. Will be strange after having every week be either a primetime game or 4:25 kickoff with Brady here.

As much bitching as there was about people having to wait and not being able to stay awake, I imagine most will be thrilled we get non premium games.

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
Yeah I don't think a team should be more than 1 game overseas. I don't mind if they tried NFL Europe again but I don't want to see expansion European teams in the NFL.
Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
As long as they are sending east coast teams to Europe it's not really that different from flying to the west coast for a game.
Also, how do you think we grow revenue, the salary cap, and thus player salaries? This is one avenue that feeds that growth. They can sit in first class for an extra hour just fine.

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
This. When a west coast team has to fly east for 2 consecutive games or east coast team flys west, they just stay in the area. IIRC the Dolphins did it last year, playing the Niners & Chargers in consecutive weeks and then had to play on the road in Buffalo on a Saturday night. That's much worse than knowing you'll be in London for 2 weeks. It really isn't that big of a deal.Doctor wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 11:26 am As long as they are sending east coast teams to Europe it's not really that different from flying to the west coast for a game.

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
Not true. Flying to the west coast from where I am would be a 4.5 hour flight with a 3 hour time difference. Flying to London takes 8 hours and is a 5 or 6 hour time difference. That is huge. Especially because 95% of flights to Europe from the states are overnighters.Doctor wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 11:26 am As long as they are sending east coast teams to Europe it's not really that different from flying to the west coast for a game.

Re: 2023 NFL regular season schedule!!
The time difference really messes with your head, the worst of it is trying to re-adjust a week or 2 after you get back. The Bucs looked like shit the week after the Germany game.BuccaNOLEer wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2023 11:48 amNot true. Come to think I wonder what teams records are the game after getting back to the States.
