Canales is/was a leader. They’re following.
Bowles said he expected his entire staff back unless they received promotions. Whoops.
Kinda looks like the coaches who left feel that Canales has a better chance to be successful than Bowles. (or at least he is more secure -- which given the Panther's recent history is saying something)
It also lends itself to the credence that Bowles is involved in the offensive decision making very little if at all.
Wow. This does not appear to be a good look for Bowles.
Seconded. We just lost our OC and WR coaches to promotions, which ain't great for us but good for them. However, losing multiple other coaches in lateral hires to a division rival? That stings.
For those keeping score at home, our current offensive staff is Thadeus Lewis (QBs), Skip Peete (RBs) and John Van Dam (TEs). That's it. Presumably an outside OC would bring in his guys, but still.

Am I mad that the coaches of our shit run game and Oline are gone? Not exactly.
Bowles fired most of the offensive staff last season but kept those 2 because as he put it there wasn't a megastar to fill their roles and they were worth salvaging.
Goodwin has been "run game coordinator" here since 2019 and we've yet to establish an even decent run game. Gilbert has also been here since 2019 and all we've talked about is how outside of Wirfs how replaceable everybody is.

We'll see how they feel when their dip-shit owner one-and-done's them out of their jobs.

The Panthers continue to pluck from our coaching staff.
A lateral move for a guy he only coached with for a year, after having ties to Arians and Bowles for years? Ouch.
They were free agents with no deal so the Bucs couldn’t block them from a lateral move. Nor should they. Our offensive line and run game have been horrible, new coaches couldn’t hurt. Especially when a new out of house OC is likely and that guy may not want Goodwin or whoever else around.

We can and will do better.
I think both things are true. The running game has not thrived under Goodwin and Canales inspires men to follow him. I think it’s a good sign for a young HC.

I didn’t know their deals were up. That does change how it looks.
The Buccaneers' decision: With multiple high-profile free agents in the mix, I'm signing Mayfield to an extension and keeping my franchise tag options open for safety Antoine Winfield Jr. or receiver Mike Evans. Using Geno Smith's deal from last offseason as a template but factoring in some cap inflation, I'm doing three years and $80 million with escalators that can bolster the contract up over $100 million. Mayfield will be 29 years old when next season kicks off (Smith signed his new deal last year at age 32), has two playoff wins under his belt and threw for 4,000 yards this past season.
The Bucs will have salary cap space in the $40 million to $50 million range and can absorb this through void years -- or they can backload the deal, as the Seahawks did with Smith. The length of the contract provides enough stability to be more than a bridge deal but gives all parties some degree of flexibility, considering Mayfield has had some injury issues. -- Jenna Laine, Buccaneers reporter

I think one of the highest off-season priorities, should be hiring someone to help with clock management.
I'll call Bowles. Tell him I'll do it for cheap like $250K

Bruce Arians: Buccaneers aren’t losing any of their top free agents.
Still lurking with power?
Hope that the Bucs don't lose any big free agents. But players (and their agents) often say things from a publicity position while actually thinking something else. Evans agent may already have "inadvertently" met with another teams personnel in violation of NFL rules.

You realize that agents have a reputation and if you are considered to be a liar to an organization or working in bad faith then your clients can get blacklisted from teams, right? You think Evans lies to Arians? Do you think Evans lies at all?
Also he hasn't talked to anyone. If he was he could have any contract blocked and that team would lose draft picks. The most is a friend of a friend had a talk with another player on another team that had a message from another team. Some takes here....

Anyone think the Glazers could be looking at Vrabel and Bill Belichick both being available and possibly reevaluating their position on Bowles?
Hasn’t Bowles “out-coached” those two guys the last couple seasons? They’ve been abysmal. The Titans were our easiest all year outside of the Bears.

Not a chance. Like @Grahamburn said, Bowles had been better than both recently.

They’re not that smart.
8 teams had HC vacancies. Between Vrabel and BB they got a grand total of interest from one owner and that owner said nah...I'd rather hire a different defensive minded coach than either of them

teams have concerns about their ability to play nice or exist within corporate structure. Bill wants to be GM. Vrabel got one GM fired and was in a row with the other one.

The NFL has changed.
Are you saying it would be smart to hire either of them over Bowles, because that is what you were suggesting

In spite of their issues, absolutely
I didn't realize you wanted Licht gone so badly. While I understand a lot here will love that he let talent go to get comp picks and would be a winner with some here as his philosophy is to trade back and draft 12 people a year (yeah I mean you @mdb1958), but he overdrafts positions to try and find a starter. Like the last two drafts he has picket 4 OGs, 5 CBs, and 3 WRs. That's the throw at a dart board approach to the draft. He almost always drafts a QB. It's almost like he's hoping to hit on a second Brady. I personally would never want BB as my GM, and he wouldn't be a head coach (yet) unless he is a GM.
As far as Vrabels, I don't know. He had a great OL and one of the best power back to play the game. I could see why he wanted the first GM gone. I think the second one was because the Titans picked one ahead of Detroit and Detroit got Jahmyr Gibbs and Sammy LaPorta while the Titans new GM got Tyjae Spears and Josh Whyle.
Brady pretty much dad dicked Mahomes in every meaningful they played against one another. Each time Tom showed that there are levels to this and Patrick was very clearly below Brady.
