If you pretend everyone will be the same as last year, it would look that way. Otherwise:
College Football Network's Strength of Schedule for 2024

CFN’s exclusive strength of schedule metric was crafted carefully using as many resources as possible ahead of the 2024 season. Using a bevy of metrics such as returning production, roster projections, coaching staff, incoming talent, home-field advantage, and other factors, the CFN SOS analyzes which teams have the most difficult and easiest schedules this season.

CFN’s strength of schedule metric included each team’s transfer portal classes, valued quarterbacks returning to their school, and continuation among the coaching staffs into the ranking. These factors all awarded schedule difficulty more heavily based on merit and projection, as opposed to looking back at results from last season, though those results were factored in moderately.

Here’s how the teams rank ahead of the 2024 season.

I disagree. Last season, this format would look like:

Bye weeks 1-4:
Michigan, Washington, Texas, Alabama

Oklahoma @ FSU
Ole Miss @ Georgia
Penn State @ Ohio State
Missouri @ Oregon

That looks like pretty good football to me.
I think I'm with @Snake on this. I don't think you need 12, I think 6 is fine. I see what you have here and read @Sdbucs's response and your agreement to it, but I'm just not seeing it. I've said on the board before, I don't watch nor like college football, but my brother absolutely loves it and watches it all the time. My son loves it too. I talk to them towards the end of the season around the holidays (Thanksgiving then again at Christmas), and college football comes up. Every year they always talk about the teams in the Top 10 and they always agree that teams in the latter half of the top 10 are really good, but not good enough to beat the best of the best.

Yeah, I get the "on any given day" argument, but does that team mean that they're really the better team? Aren't the teams in the top 5 usually undefeated and/or 1-loss teams? In the same conference as teams from 7 to 12 that have like 2 and 3 losses? When the goal is to have a champion, 6 is enough. When the goal is to make more money and the champion aspect is secondary, then 12 teams works.

They will prolly lose att Notre Dame. Could very well lose at
Miami and Cam Ward. And SMU no easy game. I can see 3 losses there. They won’t be nearly as good as last year. Lot of changes.

Agree with the 12 teams being too many but with how stupid college football has gotten, it’s prolly the way they have to go. Should have six strong conferences, a conference championship for each conference, and 6-team playoff. Easiest way to do it. But now we basically have a 2 conference system. It’s no coincidence Nick Saban retired at the same time all this crap is about to take place.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I could debate both sides of it, but at the end of the day: more teams = more football = yay.

It will probably work out to the same amount of games no matter how many teams make the playoffs. More playoff games will lead to less regular season games. If their at 12 now, they're only 3 years away from 16. By that point, you'll probably have 2 football conferences with 24 teams (each)... two 12-team divisions. They'll play an 11-game season (only games in their division), with a possible 4 extra (between conf champ and playoffs). The teams that don't make the conf champ game or playoffs, will still get a worthless bowl game, like they do now and still play 12 games. You'll still get 2 teams with 15 games, a couple others with 14... etc, like you do now.

"The color turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship throughout Native American communities and is used in tribute to Florida State University's special friendship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida"

Everything thing that FSU does in terms of representation of the seminole tribe goes through a process to get approval from the tribe. This is one of the reasons why they never got caught up in the 'name change' bitching that affected the skins and indians (cleveland)

They're still talking about that upset in 2007, so 17 years later we've seen a lot of upsets in college football. Do you still consider it a huge upset?

Yes. It was huge at the time and still a big one looking back. It's the one that sort of got the ball rolling where we saw lots of other upsets soon follow.

I know you aren't old enough to remember, but when the March Madness first expanded to 64, one of the first really big upsets (before they became more common) was #14 Cleveland State over #3 Indiana in 1984.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said Monday that the league would fight lawsuits with Clemson and Florida State "for as long as it takes," adding "this conference is bigger than any one school or schools" as the league prepares to enter football season embroiled in courtrooms with two of its premier programs.

In his opening remarks at ACC Kickoff, Phillips vigorously defended the league as questions have swirled about its long-term future. Florida State and Clemson are engaged in lawsuits against the ACC over the league's withdrawal penalty and grant of rights, and the league has filed countersuits against both schools.

"I can state that we will fight to protect the ACC and our members for as long as it takes," Phillips said. "We are confident in this league and that it will remain a premier conference in college athletics for the long-term future. These disputes continue to be extremely damaging, disruptive and incredibly harmful to the league."

He noted that both Clemson and Florida State unanimously signed the grant of rights agreement in 2013 and again in 2016 and "quite frankly, eagerly agreed to our current television contract and the launch of the ACC Network. The ACC, our collective membership and conference office deserves better."

Phillips also defended former commissioner John Swofford, who was added to Florida State's amended lawsuit several months ago. Florida State, which filed its lawsuit in December, alleged "chronic fiduciary mismanagement and bad faith," contending Swofford insisted in conversations with potential bidders for ACC media rights in 2010 that Raycom Sports be included in any new deal signed by the ACC.

Raycom had a long partnership with the ACC but was struggling financially, and it needed to keep a package of ACC media rights for survival, according to the complaint. John Swofford's son, Chad Swofford, worked for Raycom at the time and eventually became a vice president and general manager at the company.

"John Swofford is a decent and honorable man and is widely respected in our industry," Phillips said. "He led his conference with a steady hand for over two decades, and did so through consensus and compromise."

Added Phillips: "There isn't a day that doesn't go by that I don't spend some time on the legal cases. I don't think that's going to change. We have proven that you have to move forward even with these types of distractions."

He also said his working relationships with Clemson and Florida State have not changed, telling his staff the league would not treat any school differently.

"This thing doesn't have to be evil," Phillips said. "This thing doesn't have to be about hatred and all the other things we see free flowing in our societies. We [have our] stance, but we'll do it in a respectful way."

It was his most forceful comments in the seven months since Florida State filed its lawsuit. Clemson filed its suit in March.

"Forceful moments deserve forceful support and leadership," Phillips said Monday when asked why he seemed more adamant. "I don't know that I've changed at all, other than I stand by everything I've said. Either you believe in what's been signed or you don't. We're going to do everything we can to protect the league. This has been a league that started way before me -- 71 years ago -- and will be a league around a long time after I depart.

"What gives conviction? I understand where we're going. This conference is bigger than any one school or schools."

I was just rolling down memory lane, and I forgot what an insane embarrassment of riches this was. Ferrell, Wilkins, Lawrence, Bryant, backed up by Bresee and Murphy. 6 guys, 5 first round picks, a sixth who should have been but fell subject to the volume of craziness. That should be illegal.

I know none of you give a rats ass about Clemson, so you won't care to watch this thing like I did, but give the first 3 minutes a shot. Just because THAT is college football. These guys were not getting paid. No NIL, no nothing. And, they all could have come out the year before, but stayed because... they wanted 'Bama's ass. And they got all of it. That love of the game and love of the team and sense of pride is what it's all about.

First 3 minutes, just watch those guys, and you will say: Hot damn, I can't wait for football.

Man I hate to say it but I’m just not as fired up about college football as usual. I want to be…but the changes have ruined it a bit for me. Still will watch…just have a hard time getting as excited as I used to be even with the Irish predicted to be ranked somewhere near the top 5.

Same here. I’m a Buckeye. The team could very well be #1 and I’m as disenchanted with the sport as ever.
