So far all 3 teams with byes have fallen into a deep hole early in the game. There is something to be said about coming out flat after an extended layoff. Boise and ASU recovered to make it a game in second half. Nit sure Oregon will.

It is the coach’s responsibility to ensure that the teams are properly prepared for byes or not But I agree that there’s a need to address the issue of byes and find a way to mitigate their impact on the teams’ performance.

Nah I only get nervous if it’s a game we should win. Even if ND is favored I feel like Georgia has the better athletes and should win. That said I think ND can go toe to toe with Georgia. Whether they win…we’ll see. Hope so.

Recency bias would say Ohio State should crush Texas. But…the game is in Dallas and Texas (along with Georgia) can match Ohio State’s talent in the trenches. They might be the only team in football that can say that.

I think theres something to this. It also used to happen when only about half the conferences had a championship game. And the other half had like five or six weeks off between their last game and their bowl game. Those team teams always came out flat.

I have always been an advocate of 6 teams (top 2 get byes) but the larger equivalent to that would be 14 which is where it sounds like it’s headed. Give the top 2 conference champions byes (B10 and SEC) and seed the rest accordingly. Conference champs outside top 14 don’t get in. If you’re a conference champ and can’t finish in top 14, you don’t deserve to be in the field.

Also go with the NFL format and put the higher seed vs lower seed each round. So if 14 beats the 3, they have to go to the #1 seed the following week. This eliminates potentially lopsided brackets.

I think it's clear the seeding needs to change, regardless. And, as you referenced, the treatment of conference champs. Boise State and AZ State shouldn't be 3 and 4 with byes, it's just silly.
