That also proves my point as well. When you point to Garrett being the player he is, you're not going to say "but he had 17 sacks 2 years ago". His game isn't about numbers. The numbers are a by product of the impact he has.

Mack just had 17 sacks in 2023. He’s also a free agent.
Not really relevant in 2025.
I don’t feel like you’re giving proper weight to what it will cost to attain Garrett.

There are multiple players coming available in this free agency period that have 10 sack potential. Mack included.

On a good team with a good offense and good game scripts he might break the sack record.

Nobody is going to argue that he isn’t one of the top 2 best defensive players in the league.

What it costs your team to get him matters.

You’re acting like a player that can put up 17 sacks in the NFL is dog water.

The Browns haven’t done dick with Garrett because they can’t put any players around him. You know why? They traded all their picks for Watson.

Well he has helped Cleveland win 53 of 131 games plus 1 for 2 in the playoffs.

edit: I did not check if he played all of those games.

Well then get out the Gold credit card and start peelin 1st rounders, may as well dump some for Abdul Carter also. Then all the players coming to Tampa would atleast have a clear and transparent message sent to them - aint no money to be had here.

Honestly, we've been so good at building this team through the draft I'm done to stick to that. It's a nice class.

We've also been good at hitting on these older edge FAs too. There's a few good ones probably hitting the market.
Let's not pretend that we all forgot how we won our 2nd Superbowl. Brady. Gronk. AB. Fournette. JPP. Shaq. Suh. Jensen. OBP knew they had to dip into FA to get this team over the top and did so. I don't think they'd be afraid to do so again if they felt a specific player could help get them over the top.

In what terms? We aren’t in a vacuum here.

Nobody is making the argument that Mack/Reddick/Young/Judon = Garrett or that the Bucs wouldn’t be better with Garrett.

But, there’s a combination of one of those guys plus the picks and the cap space that makes the Bucs better off with that combination than with Garrett.

Let’s try it this way. Nick Bosa got $170M. $122M totally guaranteed. Bidding starts there for a Garrett extension. His guaranteed money is done. He’s not playing without a new deal. He’ll be what $200M and $150M guaranteed for his 30-35 years?

You can sign Godwin. Reddick. Greenlaw. Might even get a top CB with that money too.

And that of course doesn’t include the 3+ premium picks you give up for the privilege.

Your response to Bootz applies to how good Mack is, and you think Garrett is the same? Garrett is a special player, unlike Mack by miles.

I'd rather draft...

I haven't heard of any Bus that wanted to be traded, and I wouldn't want any of our Premium players to get traded. If we had guys on the team that were problems, then sure, trade away. I just can't think of any, and we need all the draft picks we have.

I'm more of a draft over trade guy myself but this is a veteran team that needs a few key pieces on defense to make a serious run, so it makes sense to do this.

Sacks in 2020: 48

Sacks in 2024: 46

He's not wrong, technically. It's just that last year the sacks were spread around with a lot of DBs getting sacks. We didn't have someone like Shaq who in 2020 had 19.5 sacks, someone who was literally a game changer for other teams, he - to an extent - forced offenses to make adjustments often away from what they did best.

This is an example of why numbers are useless without context and mdb is a dumb boomer.

So, I read that Garrett would only cost around 20 million dollars because the Browns would absorb the bonuses.

So june 1st most likely?
