I don't follow college football so I'm not going to die on any hill for any one player, but Egbuka's college teammate Donovan Jackson, was taken by Minnesota just 5 picks after us. From NFL.com's draft profile of him: "Overall, Jackson has the measurables, power and movement for any scheme as a starting guard."mdb1958 wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 8:21 amWhat guard are you drafting at 19? And what team would give us that big beautiful new 2nd rounder, if we tried I'm guessing we couldnt make it happen.CannonFire wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 7:59 am
I like Egbuka, but I think we missed an opportunity to address this problem at #19.
That works for me.
Again, I am actually a fan of Egbuka because my son is an Ohio State fan and I've seen him play, but there were other WR's that were taken in R2 or later that we could've drafted if the team really wanted to address that position. Also again, I'm not dying on any hill for any of these guys, but PFF (for example), had Elic Ayomanor rated as the 5th best WR in the draft... he went in R4 (pick 136). We could've drafted the same DB's that we did R2 and 3, and taken this guy in R4. The advantage to this guy, is that he projects to be a true "X" receiver. A perfect prospect to learn under Evans for about 2 years.
Just suggestions because Bredeson stunk and I'm not really sure Opeta will actually be any better. I'm sure Licht & Co & Bowles were all doing their due diligence on the players, but we all know that they're never always right (nor wrong). I'm not expecting them to be, but I think they could've attacked the draft a bit differently to address more pressing needs. Now, Egbuka could be a super star and the OL be fine this year and things work out where we get a guy next year (be it FA or the draft), and solve that problem. We'll see.
