I'm a forum junkie, ever since the days of paying a $500 bill for AOL Chatrooms.

I once served a two week suspension, AS A MOD on the old corporate board.
Mrs Lce started a thread called "Are you a tea drinker?" and it was moving along rather briskly.

I countered with a thread "Are you a tea bagger?" , not knowing exactly what that was. My step-daughter had mentioned it as a kegger party thing where someone would get magic marker all over their face after passing out and everyone else having a "go" at him.

Well, lceman (who was a mod) completely lost it in the mod forum, so I get home from work facing a two week suspension. It almost killed me.

I am not against setting someone aside for 72 hours (similar to a gun purchase hold) but no longer than that.

What really gets me is someone REQUESTING a perma-ban. That makes absolutely NO SENSE to me.

And that is absolutely crazy that they banned you for that - just nuts!! So glad you started this place. It is the best ever. Too bad it wasn’t the original board - can you imagine if we had all that history at our disposal? I had a little chat with Auto on FB on my birthday. We were both so shocked at how the time has passed.

I neglected to mention one more thing, Chef. Do you truly have faith in those moderators or admins who previously managed Buczone? Why are you revisiting this topic again? It has already been thoroughly discussed.

I'll chime in simply to say that I think it's poor form to ban/block a user with so much history as MB. I implore the decision makers to think again.

This is coming from a guy that took a fair share of shit from the guy, FWIW.

Here's my slice. I banged the gavel louder and longer than anyone for MB to come back in his last go around. I don't think I'm capable of not loving that man to pieces. You remember our conversations on the phone on what we should and should not have been doing while we worked together. And so you know how (and more importantly: why) I've ended up with a ton of egg on my face over the years. Maybe he did just want a simple "yes" or "no" to the domain name but that pissed off EVERYONE who said "Don't let him back"

While this is true, that doesn't make Reddit, Instagram, FB, et al better than forums. They're just newer and shinier.

Imo, forums such as this one, are THE best way for a community to interact outside of RL, face-to-face convos. I'm actually a member of a couple of other forums. I use Reddit sparingly, and that is mostly just for information gathering purposes. FB is a way for me to keep up with RL friends and family members. Instagram and TikTok is just for sharing funny memes and photos with RL friends and family members that FB won't allow.

But forums...ah... Those are for everyday conversations with a diverse group of people that I would never be able to communicate with if they didn't exist.
