With the Rams leaving a sour taste in our mouths, I feel it's time to look forward...for soon the spotlight will be back on us. This is a game that has been circled since the schedule was announced. The storylines that have been written since Brady signed with us back in March 2020. And the new ones that every sports talk host will bring this week to amp our game up.
This week, everyone will be talking about a single game. Tom Brady's return to Foxborough.
Seriously though, this is the most hyped regular-season game that the NFL has had in years. Probably will be the most-watched regular-season game in a long while lol.
The Pats, especially their offense, have honestly not looked that good this year, but neither has our defense so something has to give.
Brady, coming off a loss, heading back to the place that he (perceives) slighted him the last couple of years he was there....yeah...Bucs by eleventy billion in this one folks!

Yup. Patriots don't have the firepower on offense nor the personnel on defense. So short of an implosion by the Bucs of self-inflected errors Sunday Night should be a beatdown.
This is the part of the schedule our defense needs to 'get right'.
Stay healthy for the stretch run, that's really all that matters tbh.

Right now I am leaning towards the Buccaneers losing the game. I just think they will come out flat and the Patriots will not.

Belichek is the goat coach
I'll just leave this here. Includes playoffs.
Belichick's career record without Brady: 54-60 .474
Brady's career record without Belichick: 17-6 .739
Belichick's career record with Brady: 221-67 .767
I feel pretty good about this being a bounce back game. I hope they sit JPP another week. That shoulder injury is scary. It sure would be nice if the run game got going.

If the team that showed up to LA lands in New England, Tom will have to score 35 because Jones is about to throw for 4 TDs and look like a world beater.
Eveb if we sign Sherman today, can he really be that much of a factor?
Scary game vs the Patriots. We absolutely should win easily but this Bucs team is suspect at best right now.
I feel like it's a good matchup for us simply because Jones doesn't have the arm to push the ball down the field consistently. Neither did Matt Ryan. Dak and Stafford did, and we had to respect that (or attempt to, I guess.)

And let's head on down the road

Pats are committed to the run and screen game. Mac's arm isn't that of any of the 3 previous QB's but it's competent enough for Josh's offense. It's draw and inside zone runs, TE and Z zone hole shots & seams.
This'll be the most physical game thus far vs a superior coaching staff with a far more intelligent approach to the game. If the Bucs can have an evening of smart, disciplined and patient football, they win.
Irrespective of result, it'll be yet another reminder of how the refs control games via well times calls that kill or extend possessions. And, in the NFL, they all matter.

They'll miss James White I think. One of the elite receiving backs in the game. Damien Harris is a solid player but he doesn't scare me in that regard.
I feel like if we're able to condense the field, our sideline to sideline second level speed will contain what they like to do. The only guy on that offense who can really break a play between the 20s is Kendrick Bourne. Everyone else will be playing laterally. We're all freaked out about how successful the Cowboys were at doing that, but they could also attack down the field. If Davis can contain Bourne, the rest *should* fall into place.
I'm honestly far more worried about our offense. Bill Belichick has spent 20 years watching Tom Brady practice every day while daydreaming ways to stop him.

I'll be interested to see what the Pats offensive approach/gameplan will be.
What they want to normally is line up in 12 (2 TE) personnel so they can utilize Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith after investing heavily into that position this offseason. Then use that 12 personnel package to run the ball and get favorable match-ups on LBS in the PA game.
But going against the Bucs defense it's been proven that spreading the formation out and putting more speed on the field with 3 and 4 WRs is far more effective than trying to make hay vs our base defense where teams try to establish the run.
If Belichick still had Brady this would be a game where the Pats throw it 50-60 times, but does Belichick put rookie QB Mac Jones making his 4th NFL start in a situation where he has to sling it that much?

After watching how the Buccaneers defense has made rookies (Daniel Jones) and career backups look like HoF QBs I think Bill will spread it out and put up 40 points on the hapless Bucs.

The Bucs vs back-up QBs narrative doesn't really ring true anymore.
I'll have to dig up the old Greg Auman tweet but the Bucs are something like 6-1 vs back-up QBs recently.
Also, Bowles has a good track record vs rookie QBs. Even that Daniel Jones game in 2019 should've been a W if not for our idiot (and Gay) kicker missing a game winner from inside 40yds.
I get the pessimism regarding the Bucs pass defense, but this Pats offense isn't exactly the Greatest Show on Turf, so it's a good 'get right' game for the defense.
If Mac Jones and this Pats weapons are able to score 30pts by moving the ball at will via the pass game it won't be good. But I don't think that will happen. They lack the firepower of teams like the Cowboys and Rams have.
32nd in sack percentage is just awful. They say it comes in bunches. Better start soon.
Wow, those numbers are quite ugly. It's just a comprehensive failure of defense at every level. Yes, we need help in the secondary, but that's not the only problem with the defense.
I'm not sure what's going on but if it's not solved quickly then boy...this repeat campaign is going to be very painful.
BA should post that graphic in the locker room for all to see this week of practice. That's embarrassing.
I hear the cheap seats for this game are going for $750 a pop. That's crazy. You know this game will be loud as fuck and the New England crowd will give TB12 a standing ovation.

I think a person could make somewhat logical excuses for our poor performance defensively through three games. Some excuses will be very tough to buy, but they're their nonetheless.
However, there are no viable excuses for allowing NE to put up any amount of threatening points against us. Their only strength offensively runs right into the only real strength of our defense, which is the run game. Mac Jones looks like a very average rookie and should not be capable of moving the ball much at all against us.
Even though personally I think we're already there, if Jones looks great and puts up like 300 yards and multiple TDs, then the defense and team should be in panic mode officially.
We should maul this NE team. No excuses. No "any given Sunday" bullshit. If this doesn't end in like a 35-10 destruction of the Patriots, then I have zero faith in this team making any real noise in January.
This thing @LUGZ does is an act right? What kind of rational person sets parameters for how large a win should be for a team to be taken seriously? This isn’t Alabama going against Mount Union. 35-10 or we’re not a serious playoff threat? Fuck outta here, kiddo.

While I have a bit more patience and confidence in Bowles and the defense to get things resolved, I don't disagree that if the Patriots passing game is able to shred us like Dallas or the Rams did given they have a rookie QB and not exactly the greatest WRs that my panic level will be elevated.
That said, we're a bad match up for the Patriots offense given what they want to do, and more specifically the type of game they want to avoid with their rookie QB, which is a one-dimensional game where Mac Jones has 40+ attempts.
Time for Rashard Robinson to get some snaps this Sunday imo. He's always had the size and talent to be a good NFL m2m CB, just can't stay off the substances.
Hopefully he's on the right path in life that will allow him to live up to his physical talent.
Given that we're playing the Patriots, it's not the worst week to be down a couple of CBs like we are.
