Look at how much size his left calve lost. There's absolutely zero chance Godwin is able to fully recover from that injury this year. Even if he ends up playing a handful of games he won't be the same guy. He's going to need a full off-season of strength and conditioning to even have a chance at returning to his former capabilities in 2026.
We're paying the price for a half-measure taken by The Union 160 years ago.

The New Union will correct that mistake.

Who is "the Bucs" here? Licht? Bowles? Bucs beat reporters? The team doctor's?
Now if THAT question escapes you, I honestly can't help you. Again, smart guy like you shouldn't be struggling to comprehend what's going on. Yet here we are.
Sounds like a sidestep for getting called out on your intentional vagueness.

Ironic considering you're the literally the person who's lost in the woods here. Everyone else is clearly reading the tea leaves.

That 2nd surgery reportedly happened in the spring. This pic is after that surgery.
Great. Healed up soon then!

I think I was cross remembering Wirfs’ procedure.

Can always count on you to point out any errors or omissions. 👍🏼

If any of you everyone's could be so kind as to answer the question bootz seems to be avoiding that would really help me understand him better. Thanks in advance.

I think @Bootz is saying OBP literally doesn't know what Godwin's medical situation is. Activating him allows the team to see him practice, and hopefully come back soon. However, It makes zero sense to me why they wouldn't put him on the pup list if he's >4 games away from playing. Pup or IR makes a lot more sense given what we know currently.

No one expected a second surgery. It sucks, it's a set back. And yes, there's a chance he could never play again. But it's a leap to say that's where it's pointing.

For starters Godwin himself has seen if he can run or not. He has no reason to rush into the field. No reason to "fake run" in front of doctors. Go on IR, get better.

Same with Bowles and Licht. "We need to put you to the test to truly see if you wobble when running because we don't trust you or the doctors" is a wild stance.

Maybe he jogs week 1, runs well week 3, gets back into it and feels good by week 6. Having him there for that week 6 is totally worth missing IR for. The margin in this league is small.

Or maybe it didn't work. Maybe he's still swelling and running well until week 8 and we should've put him on IR after all but we were hopeful. Heck maybe it goes into week 13. Okay. We have him for the end and the playoffs. That's what's important. Like Gronk and AB coming thru with 3 TDs in the super bowl. Show up when it matters most.

And maybe he misses the whole year. Maybe never plays again. All these are possible but I definitely think you have the likelihood order totally backwards.

Hence the last sentence in my post and the use of 'typically'. As we don't know what went into the physical, can only go by what is generally part of them.

However, did stumble across a study that shows NFL players have a high chance of returning to playing for multiple years after needing surgery to repair ankle fractures after dislocations. 71% (22 out of 31 players from 2013-2018) returned to playing and had, on average, 3.5 seasons of play after injury/surgery.

While not the same position and not using his ankle in the same way as a WR, Dak Prescott's ankle dislocation also involved a compound fracture and he returned without much diminished ability even though his was worse.
Was Dak's worse?

The compound fracture was the easiest thing to repair there for Dak. Godwin tore his deltoid ligament, which is extremely rare and overall leads to real instability in the ankle/foot. Godwin also had a 2nd surgery, which wasn't planned and no details were provided.

Dak and Godwin's injuries both occured in October. But Dak was back healthy the following offseason. If this timeline sticks, Godwin won't be back for basically a full calendar year at the earliest. That in itself should tell you his injury was more serious and IMO career threatening. The Bucs simply aren't letting it be known yet.
Yes, it was due to risk of infection. Prescott also had two surgeries on his ankle from the injury with the second one not being known until midway through the following year (sound familiar?) The second surgery was done to strengthen the deltoid ligament from damage it had sustained (both in this injury and in prior ones) and to clean out the ankle once the risk of infection had cleared. Initial surgery was done because of the fear of infection whenever there's a compound fracture, which may be easy to repair but does lead to its own set of complications/issues and does make setting the bone back in place a bit more complicated. And while you are correct that deltoid tears can be uncommon in sprains, they aren't that uncommon in ankle fractures - especially when the ankle dislocates/breaks in an eversion injury. They're also more common in high ankle sprains, which is why they tend to take longer to heal than a regular ankle sprain.

No.

It was reported that he wouldn’t play at all in PS and they hoped to have him back for the regular season.

I like the take overall, but it was funny seeing Barber saying he never heard of the interior DL leading the team in sacks ...

Wtf. All exciting draft picks, but game 1 we seem a weaker roster than we were last year due to these stupid injuries.

Don't know if this was mentioned and talked about, but absolutely love the addition of Mohamed Kamara to our practice squad. I was badly hoping Bucs would draft him last year, but Braswell ended up being our only edge rusher from last year's draft.

The absence of David Walker, who is very refined in his pass rush moves and plays stronger than Braswell will be missed in backup rotation. But I am thrilled and excited about the prospect of Kamara being activated. Based on his performance with Dolphins in last year's regular season, it seems like the kid is already good at defending the run. He seems to struggle with pass rush technique, despite having good burst off the snap. I think even in his unrefined state, he is a better OLB than both Nelson and Braswell.

I love Tom. That face feels like he's either worried how his PR team will take this or Gruden made a "we're all champs here" comment and he can't help but think how not on the same level. Or drugs.

I think most of us can agree on this being THE best moment of the Bucs 50-year history.

Was it to unprotect depth that we could have brought back from IR

or

Was it to save money?

Where is all that depth now?

It allowed them to seek employment elsewhere after they are healthy enough. All of them would have sat on our IR for the entire season and their injuries weren't season ending. I believe we can sign them back, but there's a waiting period before we'd be allowed to do so.

Ian Rapoport just said on GMFB that Godwin is expected to start practicing this week and they're hopeful he can play by week 5 or week 6.
