Welcome Baker Mayfield
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
My feeling on Baker Mayfield. He's a Brett Favre gunslinger. Coen has reigned in Mayfields worst tendencies but Mayfield has Favre Hero Ball syndrome. He's not as accurate as Favre but Favre wasn't exactly perfect on the deep pass. Not like Aaron Rodgers.

						Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
I asked bootz where he ranked Favre a couple posts back.. I liken the same comparison.
He's a more mobile version of Favre who isn't afraid to put the team on his back.
He's a little like Big Ben in aspects minus the size, as well. His ability to extend plays at times is some of the best I've ever seen. If White doesn't fumble the ball versus the Cowboys, that play is a top tier all time play.

Everyone can see it. No need to lie.
And before anyone calls me out for calling him a liar, the man said he had about 2400 fewer posts than he actually had and then justified it. Thats now not being mistaken, that's a lie.

						Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Big Ben had like 50 lbs on Irving. Scary to think if Irving had 50 lbs and kept his elusiveness.
As far as Mayfirld goes, he had some bad luck on some INTs and some stupid passes we have a chance at a 10-7 season and if it happens then Mayfield has to take some of the credit.
My favorite part is that Bootz says anyone can do what Baker has done. Winston had 6 less TDs and 15 more ints. FIFTEEN! Complaining about ints when they are less than 1 per game is nitpicking

Baker is 2nd in the NFL right now in completion percentage at 71.7% (career 63.5%). Brett is a career 62% passer and his best year ever was 68.4% with the Vikings in 2009.
Baker is our Drew Brees.

You know who else was a 62% passer in his career? Joe Montana. You know who was a 59% passer? Dan Marino.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 12:23 pmBaker is 2nd in the NFL right now in completion percentage at 71.7% (career 63.5%). You're talking about completely different eras in QBing. If your position is Baker is more accurate than these guys, that's about as Dishonest a take as it gets.

I bet it’s exactly what he’d really like to say.
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Baker Mayfield has a passer rating of 101.3 with 67.9 completion%, 9,009 yards, 73 touchdowns and 27 interceptions (2.7:1 TD/INT ratio) in the last 35 games of his career (his entire tenure as QB1 with TB including playoff games).
For 2024, Baker's 107.6 PR is 4th among all starting QBs in Passer Rating, behind only Lamar Jackson, Jared Goff and Joe Burrow.

These are teammates that truly enjoy each other. Could you ever imagine Rodgers something similar for his ol? Maybe in the early years, but homeboy so smug and egotistical now

Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Just fyi, today on Nick Wright's 'Mahomes' Mountain,' Baker moved up to 6th-best QB in the league. Which, interestingly, is also where PFF/PFN (one of the two, I forget which) rank him through 17 weeks.
Another statistical tidbit, Baker's 73 passing TDs since the beginning of the 2023 season are 1st in the league among all starting QBs, per Nick Wright.
And now for your viewing pleasure, Baker was featured yet again on JTS' QB School:

Nick Wright is like a less angry but just as ridiculous Skip Bayless. He went viral the other day with the take the Patriots should take Travis Hunter #1, trade Drake Maye, who'll somehow net the #2 pick, draft Shedur Sanders, fire Jerod Mayo and hire Deion Sanders as HC.Sooner06 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 31, 2024 7:44 pm Just fyi, today on Nick Wright's 'Mahomes' Mountain,' Baker moved up to 6th-best QB in the league. Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
1.Tom Brady 43
2. Tom Brady 40
3.Baker Mayfield 39
With 39 touchdown passes this season, Baker Mayfield has a chance to surpass Tom Brady’s record of 43 touchdown passes. However, I doubt he’ll break the record outright, but he might tie it.

Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
45 total that year for Brady. 42 total for Baker right now. I also posted earlier that Baker has done this with what will be around ~150 fewer attempts than Tom had that season. Tom's passer rating in 2021 was 102.1. Baker is currently 107.6.
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Okay, so are we calculating the total touchdowns, including rushing touchdowns? I thought those were separate.

He isn't Lamar or Josh Allen, but Baker's ability to scramble has been an important part of the offense at times.

						Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Another award, no biggie for Mayfield

On Tuesday, the NFL named Mayfield the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17 after he threw as many touchdown passes (five) as he did incompletions in a 48-14 blowout win at Raymond James Stadium. Mayfield completed 27 of 32 passes for 359 yards, those five touchdowns and no interceptions for a near-perfect passer rating of 153.0.
The Buccaneers' red-hot passer was particularly effective when Carolina chose to send blitzes at him; in fact, all five of his touchdowns came against the blitz, according to NFL Next Gen Stats as he was 12 for 12 for 90 yards in that situation. His five touchdowns against the blitz were the most by any NFL quarterback since Patrick Mahomes had five in Week One of the 2022 season.
