Ummm Ronde Barber might beg to differ and yeah I know that they play completely different positions but still almost identical body types.

You keep repeating this one catch a game thing, and it ignores Tez's larger picture. It makes it sound like he's been on the field consistently but a non-factor, which is not the case.
In the past two games, when TJ was forced into playing time due to injury to the four guys ahead of him, he had 5 catches on 7 targets for 104 yards and a TD. Projected over a 17 game season if he were pressed into service in the same way with the same production, that would equate to 969 receiving yards on 42 receptions and 8 touchdowns.
To put that in a larger context, that production last year would have made Tez Johnson the #32 receiver in the NFL by yards (between Tee Higgins and George Pickens), and tied for #13 in the NFL for receiving touchdowns with the likes of Davante Adams, George Kittle, Courtland Sutton, and DeVonta Smith.
In short, Tez is productive as fuck over the past two games, which is when he finally got the chance to show his skills.
Imagine for a moment dragging a seventh round rookie through the mud for having one catch a game. A guy who is outperforming the expectations of his draft status by orders of magnitude. Imagine the utter audacity of it.
Dude was the 235th overall pick. Let him have his goddamn flowers. And maybe, appreciate the moment while it's here, because there's a strong chance that he will be relegated to specials when Evans/Godwin/McMillan/Egbuka return to health. But that wouldn't mean that he's gone, just that he'd help futureproof this roster when Evans and Godwin ride off into the sunset. Tez could be our future #3 if Egbuka and McMillan are the presumptive top 2 guys moving forward.
Tez has a future here, and I am glad for him. All you can ask of a rookie is that he flashes, and Tez is flashing plenty.
Maybe. Just maybe. Lighten up.
Tyler Johnson had a future here. Scotty Miller had a future here. Trey Palmer had a future here. I've seen this movie 10000 times. Wake me up when there's at least half a season of even consistent production.
People in general have low standards. Y'all prove that to be true constantly. So maybe, just maybe, stop taking things out of context as if what I'm saying isn't true and YOU lighten up.
Re: Welcome to Tampa Tez Johnson
Actually the coverage would have worked for the designed play. But because Tez recognized the weakness, and Baker pump faked to draw the safety, it was a wide open TD.
I don't disagree with the idea that he's not going to overpower a defender and come down with a contested catch, nor the idea that his catch radius is smaller than Mike Evans. Those are obvious weak points. His strong points are elusiveness, quickness, and speed which have worked out well so far.
We'll hopefully get to see more Tez soon.

Must be a team thing now, our receivers breaking from a called play if the safety bites.

Nothing new at all. 32 teams make sight adjustments in their passing game. Just a matter of QB and receiver being on the same page. They don't strictly run the routes like they do on Madden.mdb1958 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 9:30 am__Chef__ wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 9:26 am

We have worked the short game for a long time so it's refreshing to force busted coverage on the defense. Hopefully it will open up the run game. Maybe Shepard will say "man I can do that".

The Niners' communication on defense went to hell once Warner got injured. They constantly failed to make adjustments pre-snap and get to some advantageous looks. Thankfully we capitalized.

Fun facts
Bo Nix (Denver Broncos QB) and Tez Johnson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie WR) are indeed brothers — though not by blood.
When Tez was a child, he faced a difficult upbringing, and Patrick Nix (Bo’s father) took him in and raised him as one of their own.
The two grew up together in Alabama, played high school football together at Pinson Valley, and reunited years later at Oregon.

Eh, I'm pretty sure some do and some don't. Hell, MVS and JWat never did as Chiefs. The misunderstandings between them and Mahomes got to a point where they just ran paper routes in '23. That experience is exactly why I was so impressed with Tez when he obviously saw his opportunity and decided to run the go-route up the seam. MVS and JWat never would've seen that.
Re: Welcome to Tampa Tez Johnson
Yes, we learned a lot from watching them. Tez Johnson is more effectively athletic than them.
Scotty Miller is tough, because I thought he had talent to be much more than a one trick pony. Unfortunately for Scotty, he was injury prone and spent most of his time with Leftwich as his OC.

That green bay catch has all the greatness you need tbh. He'll live forever because of it. It turned the game completely in our favor.Bootz wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 10:30 pmYea and all he has to show for it is a Superbowl ring. Poor guy.Jonny wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 10:23 pm

Doesn't hurt that Brady threw it either, of course!

That's the truth. If someone asks what he did in the NFL, he can say he caught a game winning TD from Tom Brady to make a Super Bowl, that he won.Beatles123 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 17, 2025 12:23 amThat green bay catch has all the greatness you need tbh. Same deal with Ali Marpet. When Marpet retired, we all understood. He still had his health, he had generational wealth and he had a ring with Brady. Not bad for a small school guy

Good point. My understanding is that Tez altered his route on the fly, then threw the hand up to get Baker's eye. That is a pro gamer move and it shows that Tez might just have something rare, a great football IQ. Smarts, speed and route running will get you a long way

Completely broke them.. energy between the locker rooms at half couldn't be more polar(assuming of course).Beatles123 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 17, 2025 12:23 amThat green bay catch has all the greatness you need tbh. He'll live forever because of it. It turned the game completely in our favor.

GB won that 2nd half.
