I fear the day we play an offense that can beat you deep. Our deep coverage is bad. Way too often it's safeties matched up 1 on 1 with WRs. Big armed QBs can beat this defense. We saw Stafford do it.
Was he truly beating us deep?

You’d think after 10 years of struggling with this we’d make an adjustment and attempt to jam a receiver at the line once in a while.CannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:55 amNo, he wasn't beating us deep. He completed 20-23 with 3 TD's on passes that traveled 7 yards or less in the air.

Bowles seems terrified being beat deep. He seems content on letting the defense die a death of a thousand cuts instead.BLT wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 11:05 amYou’d think after 10 years of struggling with this we’d make an adjustment and attempt to jam a receiver at the line once in a while.CannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 8:55 am

So does every DC. The more plays the offense runs the more chance for a drive killing sack/TFL/penalty or even takeaway.
We still blitz pretty often so it's not like we're playing passive like the Lovie/Mike Smith days.
The secondary will eventually get in sync with the pass rush to where they are working together.

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Hope so. Assuming we don't sustain anymore major injuries then hopefully after that bye we'll be back to full strength.Dread wrote: ↑Thu Oct 07, 2021 6:18 pmSo does every DC. The more plays the offense runs the more chance for a drive killing sack/TFL/penalty or even takeaway.

On the plus side our depth at secondary will be getting a lot of quality snaps during the light part of our schedule which could be important if we run into more bad injury luck later on.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Honestly? Good. The worst thing for that kind a pull is rushing a guy back. Let him take the next four games off and then the bye week.

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Sucks he's gone for the foreseeable future but overall it's good timing if there ever is such a thing when losing your #1 corner.
The Saints and Eagles scare me a bit but overall we're heading into large drop in QB quality so it may not be much of an issue.
He should end up with like 6 weeks rest when counting the bye week so he should be good to go for the rest of the season(hopefully).

I have read in here we are going to have all kinds of problems keeping or re-signing key players. Two things are happening we are looking at other players and other player may have their value somewhat affected.

I’ll take that final injury report all things considered.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Getting Dean, JPP, and Gio back will all be helpful, especially those two guys on defense. While JTS is headed to good places, having him return to a sub role so JPP can give more experienced snaps as the starting edge is wise. And much maligned as Dean is, he is a Superbowl starter and better than Pierre Desir or Ross Cockrell. Gio should be welcome in the passing game.
We can live without Gronk for a time until he's healed. Winfield is very good, but Edwards and Whitehead are a solid pair of starting safeties. Didn't know O'Connor was hurt; I guess that makes more snaps for Nacho and Anthony Nelson.

At what point do we start to dare teams to run it? Or are they already and we just can’t cover long enough on the back end?

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
We might suddenly have a pass rush.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
When we play the Chiefs, or maybe if we play the Rams again. But they (Chiefs) might be the only team we would invite to run by running an intentionally light box. Mahomes and Tyreke Hill have to be neutralized to best extent possible. Which is to encourage their offense to run it and throw shorter passes to someone other than Hill.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 12:46 pmAt what point do we start to dare teams to run it? But the goal of every defensive coordinator going into a game is to stop the run and make the opponent one dimensional. Just as most NFL offenses know they need to pass the ball to score points these days, but no NFL offense heads into a game hoping to throw it every down and be one-dimensional.
The Bucs defense doesn't overload the box more than most. We're just built to stop the run with our personnel with guys like Vea, Suh, and Gholston up front pushing back the LOS and not surrendering their gap, JPP and Shaq set the edges, while ultra athletic LBs like White and LVD run free/unblocked to make the tackles.
I suppose we could stay in more nickel/4man fronts and play 2 high safeties to 'dare' teams to run. But then we're inviting teams to stay balanced and on schedule.
I get teams have been successful throwing it through 4 games, but 45-50 passing attempts per game will create alot of #yards (exciting). All those attempts usually come with drive killing plays for the offense like sacks and holding penalties, or ideally a turnover.

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Defensive wishlist 7 sacks and 4 turnovers.

No shit..read it, reread thinking I misread it.. then scrolled to see the poster and said "exactly"

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
I'm saying because we have to go out and get new players Carlton Davis, Dean, and SMB might lose some of their bargaining power in the next two years.

Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
There are 42 cornerbacks with contracts larger than 10 million.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
No, in other words, all the years Bootz has been saying pay the man someone earlier he had plugged gets canned.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
And that is for the duration of the contract.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
Miami is paying 50.6 million this year for all of their DB's! That is the most for 2021.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
JPP back is huge. Guy has a massive impact on our defense. Underappreciated.
Re: Dolphins @ Buccaneers Discussion
It is, and I believe we only have three all season

Trap game for Bucs.

In what way? Think they're looking ahead to the Eagles?
