Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
If we could get a 2nd for Devin, draft Jack Campbell out of Iowa with said pick to replace him, I’d be pretty happy with the outcome.
I like DW but for 20ish a year he can move on. Way too inconsistent

Hey! If we get Daniel Jones… are we best in division?

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Trask will make about $1.4M this coming season. Jones wants $45M. Jones might be better than Trask, but I absolutely know he isn't 30 times better.
Trask is the perfect QB for this team in 2023. Maybe draft someone else in the late rounds to "compete." Maybe Drew Lock wants to come in on an uber cheap "compete" deal. There's no reason to spend any real money on a QB for this year.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I would check the trade market for Evans, Jensen, Shaq, Donovan, White. I’d expect for it to only exist for Evans and White but I’d try to acquire 2024 draft ammo. Same with our current pick. If you could move from 2023 first to 2024 first plus other consideration, I’d do that.
I’d give 2023 to Trask and a rookie QB that is athletic and see if you get lucky, but otherwise use the season to take your lumps and pay the Brady era bill.

So in just a few moments we have both jumped to conclusions that he will be traded, won't be traded, will play under the option, won't play under the option.
All off some half tweets.

As long as Bowles is around Devin White will be here. He is lying about the tackles he makes though. Devin White makes tackles every starting linebacker makes/should make. He also missed tackles that he shouldn't miss.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
He does miss some tackles because he always goes for the shoulder pads. But it's way behind:
- Guessing the wrong gap against the run, leading to gash plays.
- Getting swallowed up by blockers and being unable to disengage and scrape.
- Looking like he just got off a tilt-o-whirl in coverage.
- Occasional pathetic effort.
I'm praying we move on from Bowles before we give this chucklehead the bag.

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I'm enjoying this offseason so far.
Fat Sack Of Crap gone. Fat plodding Lenny gone. Worthless OC gone. Brady making his decision quickly, which I wasn't sure would be the case. The Saints saving us from potentially doing something dumb. Anthony Richardson jazzercising his way out of our reach.
If we give Trask a real chance, protect as much future cap space as we reasonably can, draft more for talent than immediate need, find a way to keep Dean, and wait to give White his money...I'd consider that a good offseason.

For that position in this defense in particular? Yes.Bootz wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 4:24 pmIsn't that how all plays happen? Because of how coaching schemes it up?Grahamburn wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 4:20 pm
I don’t think he’d win much one on one against tackles. They swallow him up pretty regularly.
All his splash plays seem like they’re usually schemed up blitzes by Bowles.
/thread
And we might be worse without Devin next year. Unclear. We weren't good last year. We dropped to #13 DVOA defense with Devin playing all 17 games. So might be worse than #13 DVOA defense next year. But that might also have something to do with (a) losing Dean, (b) losing Edwards, (c) losing Edge depth and play opposite JTS. And if we lose LVD, it will certainly have a lot to do with that.
Here is the thing about this particular position on defense and how the scheme is built around it to make plays.
2013 Cardinals: Karlos Dansby at the end of his career:
8 Sacks, 63 Stops and (only) 12 Missed Tackles, 4 Ints, 1 FFM, 1 FR
2014 Cardinals: Larry (freaking) Foote at the end of his (forgettable) career:
2 Sacks, 40 Stops and 19 Missed Tackles, 1 Int, 0 FFM, 1 FR
2015 Jets: David Harris (?) at the end of his (forgettable) career:
5 Sacks, 44 Stops and (only) 10 Missed Tackles, 0 Int, 2 FFM, 0 FR
2016 Jets: Bowles changed the defense up because of personnel issues. ILB didn't rush the passer much.
2017 Jets: Prime Demario Davis
5 Sacks, 65 Stops and (only) 10 Missed Tackles, 0 Int, 0 FFM, 1 FR
DEVIN WHITE 4 YEAR AVERAGE
4.5 Sacks, 51 Stops and 19 Missed Tackles, 0.75 Int, 1.25 FFM, 2.25 FR
+++++++++++++++++
This defense generates plays and it does so for this position by design (no matter whether you're an old vet, a never-was, or a burgeoning talent like Davis with absolutely no one around you). And the more play-makers you have around this position, the more plays they'll make.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Devin White is really good at running in a straight line at a quarterback. Just hope the quarterback doesn’t take one step laterally.

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Personally I don't really care about the defense this year. We're not winning anything and with Jackson to ATL rumors heating up, we could very well go winless in the division so who cares about our corner situation for 2023?
I'm really only concerned about building the foundation on offense so that Trask is left with zero excuses by the end of the season and to provide a great base for Caleb Williams to walk into. We can dump money and resources into the defense next year and beyond.
Hell, I'm open to even trading cd3 if the price is right. He's just going to rot on our roster and his presence is basically pointless.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Frustrated me terribly as a player and I’m inclined toward the position of “gas tank rationing is a sign of (even if just a proxy) selfishness when it comes to team sports.”
That being said, he seems like a good dude generally. Marpet seemed clearly to be a good dude and good dudes rarely have not good dudes as their best friends. And, while he wasn’t good for the overwhelming bulk of his time here, his 20 and 21 seasons were his best and they were + seasons for a LT…so he briefly got right for the right time to get right.
So be well Donovan and thanks for those important two years of service. I hope whatever personal life issues you had last year resolve.

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Donovan was naturally gifted. he leaned on that natural talent instead of working as hard as many of his colleagues. Got rich, got a ring.
Maybe he’d be on a HOF path if he took it as seriously as his business dealings.

Ironic part is D Smith proved all those haters who said we'll never win a ring with him wrong in the end.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
It only took the best quarterback of all time who has the all-time skill in pocket presence for Donovan Smith to look good.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Do we win without D Smith? We'll never know.
We do know for a confirmed fact that all the haters that said we could never win with him were wrong.

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Potentially a 3rd/4th comp pick for Dean and a 5th for Lavonte. Add to the 2024 ammo to get a QB.
