No thanks. Let him have a go in MLB.

If Caleb Williams maintains his status as #1 draft pick and the Cardinals go 2-15 and draft #1, that’s a situation right there.
Not really. In such a case, one of two things happen:

A) the Cardinals draft Caleb Williams and send Murray elsewhere
B) the Cards do what the Bears just did and get a king's ransom to trade out of the top pick.

They'd win either way, imo.

The deciding to keep Kyler or trade him is the situation. Obviously, they don’t give a shit about the dead money.

But Kyler is a really talented player despite the reports and the bullshit. as we know, he’s not had a good coach in his career as a professional.

Caleb Williams is freaky talented too. But so is Kyler. Top tier athlete in the NFL. Fantastic arm talent. Kyler would instantly be the second best quarterback in the history of the Buccaneers, for example.

Yeah, I personally prefer Baker Mayfield and the quarterbacks who Jason Licht has drafted in Tampa.

Uh oh
Caleb Williams may not enter the 2024 draft if doesn’t have a chance to land up at a ‘desirable’ team.

Me too. Much prefer getting mediocre QB play for $4M instead of $40M.

Why wouldn't he want to play here though? I could see him not wanting to go certain places like Minneapolis or Cleveland but Florida is as top destination as it could get besides the bigger cities like LA and NY.

I guess if he doesn't like Florida then Drake Maye it is.

That being said Murray’s contract will probably require the Cardinals giving up the player and picks to get any team to take it on. Osweiler style.

Murray represents an $81mil dead cap hit in 2024. The Cards ain't doing that.

Whoa

For 4th round pick
Trade: 49ers are sending their former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys for a mid-round, per sources. Lance now gets a fresh start in Dallas.

This is an absolute disaster for John Lynch and I think he knows it. Time might be ticking for him with the Niners. The picks he used to get Lance basically ended up being Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, Bradley Chubb and some guy named Channing Tindall who has yet to play. Niners traded all of that for a 4th round pick.

It certainly is the biggest whiff I can think of. But he has also hit on a lot of picks and built the Niners roster up nicely. Savvy trade for CMC. If Purdy shows he’s the franchise QB and they keep making playoff runs, I think he’s safe.

If Lynch were to be let go. I don’t think he’d be out of job very long. Heck, bring him back home.

That roster is already good. Imagine another few 1RP’s injected into it…

Big whiff.

Yes, he's done well. But given his statements on the situation plus the word from the Bay area media and fans, it doesn't seem the organization is going to let this go with a mea culpa.

Think about this: They gave up on a guy after 4 starts and about 100 pass attempts after paying him $27mil+ over 2 years.

He's not making the 53. Probably PS until some other team's QB goes down.

John Lynch has had a ton of high-profile misses. That's undisputable.

At the same time, you are what your record is. And the 49ers are one of the best teams in the league since he and Shanny Jr. got there. They've also transformed from a mess of a franchise (remember Jim Tomsula? Chip Kelly?) to one of the most respected in the league. And while they haven't won a chip, they've gotten minutes away from doing so.

If they want to fire John Lynch, he'd instantly be one of the hottest GM candidates in recent years.

The same was true for Trent Baalke until it wasn't.

What's most likely true is the John Lynch led Niners gave reached their peak and are on the decline. 6 years, 3 winning seasons, 3 losing seasons, 1-2 in NFC Championship games, 3 division titles. 2 current HCs & 2 GMs came from the Lynch era.

It's been a good run. Maybe he can do it elsewhere. But the sense is this team is no better or closer to a SB than the 2022 team was. And with good reason.

They were in the NFCCG last year so it seems like "it wasn't" is a ways off. It's one of the top three rosters in the league and they're winning a shit ton of games. I have no idea what 49ers fans are complaining about. It confounds me.

I know reality doesn't quite work like this, but it's easy to pretend Brock Purdy is doing what they drafted Trey Lance to do. Obviously, that doesn't address all the sunk costs. I'm not arguing otherwise. But they needed a great young quarterback and they got one. And one who will make 1/15th as much as Trey Lance over the next several years.
