I didn’t realize how bad Licht’s last couple drafts have looked so far.
Hopefully this one has better early returns

YaYa, I am Lorde.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
So Bucs have no 4th rounder, two 5ths, two 6ths, and a 7th.
That should be about it on the difference makers then. Hope for a decent return guy maybe and a kicker. For the umpteenth time.

Yeah why bother ever trying to figure it out - just spend five months talking about QB's and tackles.

Licht just confirmed that Mauch will play guard and they are looking at Goedeke at RT.

If Wirfs ends up flopping as a LT then we need to clean house. I really don’t like the idea of moving our only All Pro. If he pulls it off successfully though that can be a game changer.Snake wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 10:43 pmRIP TrasiliskMiller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 10:40 pm Licht just confirmed that Mauch will play guard and they are looking at Goedeke at RT.

Ringo gotta be crying in the club right now.
Getting repeatedly beaten like a Kieft/Mauch/Jensen step-child on national TV cost him millions.

When I first saw Marte Mapu he was way back in UDFA territory - hard to believe he went 76th.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
We took Evans 7th. Manziel went way later to Cleveland.
I was fully prepared that we were going to roll the dice on him. I remember they panned to Johnny when our pick was in. It looked like he said “It’s me” but he must have said “It’s Mike”
Thank god.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
Licht has two mediocre (at best) drafts in a row. He should be more concerned about that.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
Bucs should try to trade some of those picks to get a 4th round pick. Quality over quantity.
Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
I can't think of a single player I could comfortably call solid. I know the punter has received that kind of kudos, but something tells me it is more hype than substance.

Re: The Official 2023 NFL Draft Thread
There aren’t a whole lot of immediate impact rookies available every year. Especially with where the Bucs have been picking.
Cappa and Godwin didn’t break out until year 2. A lot of guys don’t.
Maybe Goedeke/Hall/JTS come into their own in 2023. Be patient.

team is really betting on Zyom McCollum taking a step forward. one injury away from him being #2 boundary CB

I'm assuming, in order, Vea, JTS, Hall, and Kancey, yes?BucsNBills wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 10:08 am Just gonna leave this here.

This draft has been fairly unpredictable on the whole. Some thoughts on us in particular:
1) For the first round, this would have been my preference:
* Paris Johnson somehow falling to around 13 and a good-value trade-up to get him.
* Any of Smith, Kancey, or a big value trade-back that nets 2nd and 3rd rounders.
2) Mauch isn't a surprise at all given our historical M.O. But this can't be a Cappa or Goedeke (yes, he played...he needed to be redshirted...it was a terrible decision to play him) Redshirt. This team needs him to play on the interior year 1. He doesn't have much experience at all in Outside Zone play so, assuming we're following the course of the Seahawks paradigm the last 8 years (and why would we take Canales if we weren't?), Mauch has a very large technical hill to climb in terms of upper and lower half (but lower in particular). The good news is, he's a great mover, explosive and balanced. So he has the inherent trait tool-kit to be a capable Outside Zone player. But he needs to be a capable player. Without any further context, this signals the following I think:
LT Wirfs
LG Leverett or Hainsey
C Jensen
RG Mauch/Feiler
RT Goedeke/Feiler
We'll see. Holy hell are there a lot of question marks in that group (and that is before you ask and answer the holistic question of "how well will this group transition to a primary Outside Zone scheme?").
3) I looked into Yaya Diaby a bit before the draft. Looked like a 4th to 5th rounder in terms of on-the-field production and tool-kit if I'm being honest. Its the traits of length + north/south burst + size + motor and his Longarm and Speed-to-Power game that bumped him up I suppose (Bowles really likes that toolkit and in particular for one of his edges; and it makes sense for the left edge because that helps prevent the classic pocket-escape right). We are clearly drafting for "players who can augment our Twist/Stunt/Loop game up front + explosive traits + motor" with our 1st and 3rd here. The issues that I see with Diaby:
* Lack of bend/flexion. Just don't see it in his game. I see tightness in hips and ankles when it comes to trying to corner. This is not a burst and bend player who corners the C arc after exploding past an OT.
* Not remotely an advanced toolkit or advanced hand usage nor a clear and consistent pass rush plan in his game. No real counters and rush stalls out if Longarm or Speed-to-Power doesn't win. However, you do see reliable pick-man or looper in the Twist/Stunt/Loop game so that should be mentioned.
* Doesn't make the plays that he needs to make sometimes. Misses too many tackles/opportunities for plays.
4) Dorian Williams taken. Sucks. Would have been a really nice add. That probably signals that the Bucs are going to force White to hold out or show up.
5) Hopefully we can get Blake Freeland (LT in an Outside Zone-heavy scheme that is extremely capable there) or Anthony Johnson Jr (S) here soon. Will almost surely have to move up to get one of those two guys.
