Indeed it was. We always knew it was a game of hot potato, just glad we got the ring first.

Where does Davin rank on the all time Buc OG list?

I still remember that play in preseason when he got hurt and Nicks was so visibly upset. Those guys wanted to grind on some people that year.
Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
Man he was hurt too much. But when he was in their he moved people and made it look easy. I'd definitely say he was a top 5 all time Bucs OG.
Most hated man in America.
Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
Sounds about right.
I remember during his draft I specifically said "I don't care who we get as long as it's not like Davin Joseph" right before the pick was announced.

Lol Yea I remember being underwhelmed at the time. 8 years of solid to great guard play and 2 pro bowls shows how much we know.
Might be regency bias, but right now my all time Bucs starting OL is Gruber-Marpet-Mayberry-Joseph-Wirfs

Ian Beckles is going to be pissed!
Randy Grimes may want a word regarding C.

I didn't have many preconceptions that draft. We were picking too late. I do remember when we were on the clock, wanting John McCargo, DeMeco Ryans, D'Qwell Jackson, or Marcedes Lewis, and being peeved about passing on all of them (I wanted McCargo the most, though he was far and away the worst of that group.)
I do remember being irritated about Jeremy Trueblood.

Let's roll another joint
And let's head on down the road
There's somewhere I got to go..."

Frank Middleton, who would go onto play for Oakland during their SB vs us.

Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
On the road 8 hours today, but wanted to share a thought. In alternate universe the Bucs draft Cam Jordan over Clayborn and keep Bennett to pair with McCoy and a Brian Price that never hurts his hamstrings. A guy can dream right?
Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
Donald Penn is a pretty athletic guy.

Look at the length of that neck!!

Licht's small school linemen typically take off in year 2. Let's hope that's the case for Luke. Concerned we're making the same mistake penciling Mauch in at RG. That side of the line could potentially be a sieve.

Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
It doesn't matter who the QB is, who the RB is or even what the offensive scheme is, if the offensive line can't pass protect and can't make holes for the RB to run through. That was the major problem with the offense last year. I hope I am wrong, but I don't see where the O'line has improved much over last year. Because of the salary cap, the Bucs couldn't afford to sign Orlando Brown in free agency and chose not to draft an offensive tackle in the draft.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 9:15 am Licht's small school linemen typically take off in year 2. Donovan Smith was an active and very expensive liability, and we slid our best offensive lineman Wirfs over to LT to fix that problem; I think this move is going to be a net win for us in the long term. LG was a sieve last season and we plugged that hole with the large and experienced Feiler. Jensen with all his veteran savvy and tone-setting play returns healthy at center, and his backup in Hainsey gives us a fantastic swing interior OL who can plug injury holes across all three interior spots. Mauch is a promising second rounder who should give us as good as the underwhelming Shaq Mason gave, and Goedeke had a solid game against the Falcons at RT, which was his collegiate position. Brandon Walton played good snaps last year in tackle relief duty, and we still have Stinnie and Leverett at OG.
Personnel ain't the issue and it wasn't last year imo. Calling predictable runs with antiquated schemes was. It would be difficult for Canales to replicate Leftwich's historical ineptitude in that regard, and I have faith we should be able to run the ball at least marginally well next season.

I was going to say something simple like we have the most growth potential offensive line depth in maybe - forever.

Heard they like Silas Dzansi also.

Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
Is he or Aguayo the biggest bust in history? Never saw Reese play but know of the legend in literally drafting Sean Farrell instead by accident and Culverhouse freaking out demanding we figure out a way to get him

Based on his position coupled with where he was drafted, Aguayo, without a doubt. These Are The Days wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:58 pmIs he or Aguayo the biggest bust in history? Never saw Reese play but know of the legend

The biggest draft bust for the Bucs was drafting Bo Jackson after Bo told the Bucs he would not sign with the Bucs. Bo kept his word and the Bucs completed wasted that first overall draft pick.Buc2 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 7:02 pmBased on his position coupled with where he was drafted, Aguayo, without a doubt. These Are The Days wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 6:58 pm

Re: 2023 Countdown to Kickoff Thread
I am glad someone covered that before I had to. MJW has as many rushing yards in a Bucs uniform as Bo Jackson, that should say it all.GreatTimes wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 7:15 pmThe biggest draft bust for the Bucs was drafting Bo Jackson after Bo told the Bucs he would not sign with the Bucs. I hated those alarm clock uniforms. They were awful.
