Championship Sunday Discussion
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Seems like at least 3 titles during the competitive “era” is required.
The endpoints of that era being arbitrary. Players change, sometimes coaches even change.

These are dynasties:Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 11:16 amThis to me is the best definition of a dynasty.BuccaNOLEer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 10:07 am
A dynasty is remaining a contender for a number of years, not necessarily winning championships every year. The Spurs from 99-07 were a dynasty. The Bulls from 90-98 were a dynasty. The Pats dynasty was from 2011-2018. They made it at least to the AFC title game every year during that time.
Green Bay Packers 1929–1944. Led by Curly Lambeau, the Packers won six NFL championships in 16 years (1929, 1930, 1931, 1936, 1939, 1944) along with two runner-up finishes (1932, 1938).
Green Bay Packers 1960–1967. Led by head coach Vince Lombardi, Green Bay won five NFL championships in seven years (including Super Bowls I and II): 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966, 1967; and were championship finalists in 1960.
I suddenly hate Green Bay even more...
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
I think that's very clear.
I think it's funny to point out, when people shit on our division, how much of the Pats dynasty was built on beating up on the QBless fins, jets, and bills six games out of the year. How many bye weeks and home games in freezing NE did those account for? You can only play who is on your schedule though so fuck it.

Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
If the NFC south remains terrible, the Buccaneers continue to win the division, and proceed to go on and win Super Bowls and consistently beat quality teams in the playoffs. I think we can stop talking about the bad division at that point.
We are at step one.
We are at step one.
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Yeah, that's the general response of the uninformed, but look at the Patriots record against the rest of the NFL during those two(ish) decades, and it's almost as identical as their division record, so that "weak division" argument doesn't hold a drop of water.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 4:31 pm I think that's very clear.

Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
That's quite a leap you took there.
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Right. The Bucs were what, 2-7 against winning teams this season? And one of those wins was against a collapsing Eagles team that fired coaches at the end of the seasonacmillis wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 4:38 pmYeah, that's the general response of the uninformed, but look at the Patriots record against the rest of the NFL during those two(ish) decades, and it's almost as identical as their division record, so that "weak division" argument doesn't hold a drop of water.Doctor wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 4:31 pm I think that's very clear.

Team of the 60s: Packers
Team of the 70s: Steelers
Team of the 80s: 49ers
Team of the 90s: Cowboys
Team of the 00s: Patriots
Team of the 10s: Patriots
Team of the 20: Chiefs
Those are your dynasties, although Chiefs prolly need to win a third title in two weeks to establish themselves as a dynasty.

Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Bucs defeated Jax 9-8, Saints 9-8 and Packers 9-8 in the regular season. The Bucs had the 27th hardest schedule in the NFL. But what worse is that the combined winning percentage of the team the Bucs defeated was around 320. You can't get a much easier schedule than that, yet the Bucs with all their offensive weapons only eked out a 9-8 regular season record. And if the Panthers had not had 2 TD's called back in the Bucs last game, the Bucs would have been out of the playoffs.Snake wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 4:40 pmRight. Thanks are taking the time to look into the details. Definitely shows that the bucs were not a quality team this year.GreatTimes wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 5:40 pmBucs defeated Jax 9-8, Saints 9-8 and Packers 9-8 in the regular season. Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
How many "quality teams" were there this year? If the answer is more than 2, then the Bucs are in the same boat as the other "quality teams"
Most hated man in America.
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Maybe 5. As Tom Brady said, lot of mediocrity in the NFL right now.
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Seems being a quality team doesn’t mean much.

Given your extremely bizarre obsession with JF, I’m not mad at this one at all.

Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Depends on what your definition of a quality team is.
There were 12 teams that had better regular season records than the Bucs.
There were 6 other teams that had the same 9-8 record as the Bucs. 2 teams with a 9-8 record made the playoffs, GB and the Bucs.
There were 13 teams that had worse regular season records than the Bucs.
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Depends on what you're looking for. Eagles (10-1) and Bucs (4-7) were very different teams during the bulk of the season. As they were in December too. Which is more important? Who they were through most or at the end? How do you measure a team?
Re: Championship Sunday Discussion
Sounds very middle of the road. Aka mediocre.GreatTimes wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 10:41 pmDepends on what your definition of a quality team is.
