Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Wow! Can't wait to see compensation
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Davis is better than Dean. This is interesting.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Exactly. Dean's market is probably catpiss in a spoon. Davis' at least should be catpiss in a bowl.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Lions have two 3rds. Maybe it's one of those?
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
If Licht were savvy at trades (he's not) it would be at least both.
Edit: See? @Redrum had it 1st.
I had this wrong

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Not horrible compensation.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
The market is cat piss, but Licht should get TWO nice picks for him. Interesting standards you have there.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Tbh it’s mildly disappointing to give up Carlton plus two 6ths just to get a 3rd from a team that had an extra 3rd. But the move should open up the space to adress other positions on the team so I’m good with it.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
He had one year left on his deal and isn't getting any healthier. Dude misses 5+ games a year. Godwin was a 3rd. Diaby was a 3rd. Looking forward to the draft.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
WAIT! All we get is a 3rd and give up 2 picks?!
LMAO! Jason Licht has and always will get his ass handed to him in trades.

So this is like the JPP trade, except this time we are the losing team.

Every time we move on from a player it costs us a ton it seems.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
If my math is right, Gage and Davis being gone should clear up around 13 million in cap space. Plus there’s still the potential of AWJ/Wirfs getting new deals with short term cap relief or other players restructuring. I’m not sure who they could spend on, but I would like some edge help.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
This is just as more about the emergence of Zyon than it is Davis.
Davis and Dean have been great homegrown duo for us. And we likely would've continued with it had another opportunity not presented itself. But it did, that being we drafting and developing yet another boundary corner.
So now you can keep going with the original path likely paying Davis yet another big contract.... or pivot to Zyon, gain $6M in space, and a 3rd rounder in a stacked draft.
I thank CD3 for everything he's done and for being a huge part of that SB defense. Wish him the best. Hope they give him a fat deal.

Davis is done! 58 PFF grade!
Oh wait, Zyon’s was 52.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
Convince myself? Dude this was literally my take on our CBs before we even made the trade.
Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 4:13 pm Completely disagree. One, we absolutely could and did pay both corners like that. Two, these are all moving pieces. Every year looks different. You reform yourself to the landscape.
We have developed the heck out of our CBs from Davis to Dean to Zyon. And good thing too. We could very well move on from Davis. Now all of the sudden we've got two pretty darn good starting CBs costing a total of $16M a year for both this year and next. And we can move on from Dean after this year as well if we need be, but more than not we'll likely keep him while developing his eventual replacement as well.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
It's okay though. Zyon is young, cheap and Jason Licht drafted him.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
We gave up late round draft picks, who cares? Those are like poor lottery tickets.
We have been solid with our mid round picks. A third is great. We freed up cap and got rid of an average corner who’s injured all the time on the last year of his contract.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
We traded Carlton Davis for Ray Davis.
I'm good with that.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
We traded davis and some chips for a third. I personally think it’s a great deal
We got him 6 years ago in the second round and got back a third rounder today. That’s value.

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
3rd round pick 92 from the Lions.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
And you know, this was his rookie season. Let's not pretend he can't take a sophmore leap or at least get better

Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
The issue with that analogy is that a dollar is equal to another dollar, whereas draft picks are not equal to one another. They're 6th round picks, we'll survive this disastrous loss of resources.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
If you need to fill 2 spots you can't do so with 1 pick. That's what the analogy is getting at. You're basically putting the value of 6th round picks at 0. If that's the case, why give them up to begin with?BucsNBills wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 9:12 pm The issue with that analogy is that a dollar is equal to another dollar, whereas draft picks are not equal to one another. Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
True. While we got less than a 3rd in "value".... we got the 92nd selection. That's 4 cheap years of a top 100 player of a stacked draft class.
Re: Carlton Davis traded to Lions
I would've thought you'd be looking for the next Jose Ramirez. He's still on track for the ROH, right
