Grahamburn Live Mock
Currently in a live mock at another site I frequent. Thought some posters might want to follow along. I’ve made our first two picks. Interesting that all 5 of the top QBs have been drafted prior to our selection at #26. Which was:
1.26 - Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State
Other players available and considered were Brian Thomas Jr. and Graham Barton. Jackson Powers Johnson was gone. Kool-Aid McKinstry and Wiggins were available as well.
I don’t see us passing on the opportunity to draft Chop if he’s there. In the second round we’ve selected:
2.57 - Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami
Cooper Beebe went right before our pick. Braden Fiske did as well.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
I doubt Robinson will still be available when we pick, as the Saints or Packers could select him first. Even though the Saints already signed Chase Young, they could still use another defensive end.
I believe the Bucs will prioritize selecting an offensive lineman or wide receiver in the first round.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
If Brock Bowers fall to the 10-15 range, we should trade up to get him.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
That’s why I pointed out the top 5 QBs were all drafted prior. I think if that doesn’t happen and JPJ or an edge they like are gone they could move back into the 2nd again. Seems like a spot where a team could want to move back in.Phantom wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 5:05 pm I doubt Robinson will still be available when we pick, as the Saints or Packers could select him first. If they really want Powers Johnson I think they need to move up.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
Had offers to move back in the first from KC. Did not want to pass up on Chop.
The Chiefs still moved to 27 for Brian Thomas Jr.
We’re in an interesting spot there if he actually does make it to us. Those AFC contenders like Buffalo/Baltimore can’t really afford to let him fall into the wrong hands if you know what I mean…
With two 3rds I don’t think a move up in round 2 is warranted. We’ll see how it falls but I’m targeting Zak Zinter from Michigan and then we’ll have a little fun with 92.
Keon Coleman and Ja’Tavion Sanders were also available with that 2nd rounder. Interested. Although Coleman seems redundant for us.

I think offensive line should be the priority if possible. But we pick late and may have to move up. Even though we could use help on the D-line, using our top pick on it for the 4th year in a row doesn’t get me excited.Phantom wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 5:05 pm I doubt Robinson will still be available when we pick, as the Saints or Packers could select him first. Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
His combine performance really hurt him. I think @Cheb had him as his first rounder in his initial mock. Crazy how that can make a guy fall so fast. He gave up some big plays, but also made a bunch of big plays. 11 interceptions 22-23.Kamren Kinchens enters the draft with a reputation for exceptional athletic ability and a knack for game-changing plays. His athleticism is undeniable, allowing him to cover the field effectively and deliver impactful hits. However, his coverage skills, while solid, need to improve significantly if he is expected to cover one-on-one at the next level. Currently, he'll need some help as he'll be exposed.
Kinchens' instinctual play and range in the secondary make him a constant threat. He consistently positions himself to disrupt passes and halt ball carriers in their tracks. However, his angle discipline and eye tracking need fine-tuning to ensure he's not outmaneuvered by the complex play designs he'll encounter in the NFL.
In essence, Kinchens is a prime candidate for teams seeking an athletic, aggressive safety who can immediately elevate a defense. His journey in the NFL will hinge on his ability to polish his coverage skills and maintain consistent, disciplined tackling. If he can refine these aspects of his game, Kinchens has the tools and potential to develop into a comprehensive, impact-strong safety in the pro game.
I didn’t like missing out on Cooper Beebe there and maybe should have taken a CB.

In this mock Barton was the only other first round option at iOL. I couldn’t really justify taking him over Chop. I did have an offer from KC to swap 1sts and pick up their 3rd rounder (95).
Barton was taken 35th, so in hindsight that could have been a nice move.
Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
This is not meant as a rant. I am just in disbelief. What is everyone's love (mock drafters, we will see on draft day if they are right) for Chop? From what I have witness, lack of production for DE/OLB means a jag or bust in the NFL nearly all of the time. He had half of his 4 sacks against Mass last year. He's been injured all 3 years in college so he is both injury prone and he lacks development specifically bc he keeps getting injured. Why would anyone pick him in the 1st round other than as "hope?" We can't afford "hope" with our first round pick. When articles start: "Penn State football injury report: Chop Robinson out again," that doesn't scream take him in the first round. This year of all years we don't need a JTS project in the first round. Why did you pick him over Barton or anyone else?Grahamburn wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 6:40 amWe were 22nd in pressure rate and 25th in sacks last year.Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:43 pm

@kaimaru
Not comparing them directly, but Micah Parsons had 5 sacks his last year in college.
You look at the athleticism. You look at the traits.
He played in every game his first two years and missed two games last year. That’s oft-injured?
Chop’s rush grades and athleticism are elite.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
Let’s get after the QB and play some press man behind it, Todd. It’s your bread and butter. You know you want to.Jackson is an alluring prospect because his combination of size and athleticism doesn't come around often. However, he must anticipate routes better and not rely on his recovery speed as much. If he can do this, he can be a starting-caliber cornerback in the NFL with a shutdown skill set.

3.92 - Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College
Mason McCormick from South Dakota State is also available and seems like a Licht pick with the small school stature and elite combine athleticism, but I'm taking the road grading mauler in MaHOGany to bolster this 32nd ranked run game.
Jeremiah Trotter was selected the pick prior. Not a great draft to need a LB.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
I like Chop Robinson's upside. But I'm also scared that he could have a similar career trajectory to JTS and Noah Spence. He has insane get off that allows good OTs to simply push him out of the play.

4.127 - Jaylen Wright, RB, Tennessee
Wright is an NFL-caliber athlete for the running back position. His youth is both a positive (lack of mileage) and a negative (lack of consistent RB vision), but he has succeeded in both gap and zone-blocking concepts and has top-tier pass protection ability for three-down potential in the NFL.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
Edge is a glaring weakness on this team, and Bowles wants to bring pressure. We need to get better at making the QB uncomfortable.
Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
Completely agree, just have this uneasy feeling about Robinson alone. But I do get excited about having him line up next to Kancey, another guy with a freakish get off and both of them causing chaos as a tandem.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 1:28 pmEdge is a glaring weakness on this team, and Bowles wants to bring pressure. If Robinson isn't available in late 1st, I would love it if Bucs traded down to early second and got Chris Braswell or drafted Austin Booker or Marshawn Kneeland with their pick in late 2nd.

Feel like the other two might be a little early in the 2nd? Do agree though that if that’s not the route in round 1 they should address it quickly in subsequent rounds.
Fun thing about picking later is your potential player pool outcome grows. I find it more enjoyable to mock and speculate when we’re not in the top 10.

Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
Booker went 100th in this draft. Kneeland 64th.
Re: Grahamburn Live Mock
I would love Booker as a Buc, especially if he can be had in late 3rd.
The thing I hated last season in many games was how content all of our OLBs would become when they get blocked effectively.
Booker is average as an athlete, but he's always operating at 100% tenacity. That leads to him being productive one way or the other. Many plays where he simply bull rushes into the QB when the opposing lineman has good positioning on him.
