Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
The coaches are unlikely to tell anyone what they are thinking in terms of who plays where....at least at this point. It serves no purpose to state that Hainsey is or isn't going to play guard, center or anywhere else. Attach that to all of the candidates for the 3 IOL positions.
Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
I mean, you can have a plan, sure. We had a plan to put Ali at center. But you can hear by the way everyone speaks you also have to be ready to pivot from a plan. I'm sure the line will shake out the best it can. We have a lot of maulers.
Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
I was noticing how our rosters have built built since Arians got here and how Bowles constructed his roster last year. 3 QBs/4 RBs/6 WRs/4 TEs/9 OLs and Bowles reduced QBs to 2 and WRs to 5.
On defense Arians had 6 DLs/5 OLBs/4 ILBs/5 CBs/4 Ss to adding a 6th OLB and CB.
I think this all due to have mostly 2 WR sets. Now that we are 3 WRs sets the question is do we reduce OLB by one where Bowles loves to rotate players all game or CB where the team has been bitten before. My thought is this. Since he is crosstraining CB and S that he will add back a 6th WR and keep 6 OLBs.
Wolford was added back to the roster at the very end of Oct 31 when QB injuries started to add up. I am guessing this will happen again.
PS Jose Ramirez doesn't make the cut. Sorry @Doctor
QB: Baker Mayfield, Kyle Trask
RB: Rachaad White, Bucky Irving, Chase Edmunds, Sean Tucker
WR: Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Deven Thompkins, Trey Palmer, Ryan Miller
TE: Cade Otten, Payne Durham, Devin Culp, Tanner Taula
OL: Tristan Wirfs, Cody Mauch, Graham Barton, Elijah Klien, Luke Goedecke, Brandon Walton, Ben Bredeson, Justin Skule, Sue Opeta
DL: Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey, Logan Hall, Greg Gaines, William Gholson, Mike Greene
OLB: Joe Tryon-Shoyinko, Yaya Diaby, Chris Braswell, Markees Watts, Anthony Nelson, Randy Gregory
ILB: Lavonte David, KJ Britt, Sirvocea Dennis, JJ Russell
CB: Jamal Dean, Bryce Hall, Zyon Mccollum, Tavierre Thomas, Quandre Mosely
S: Antoine Winfield Jr, Jordan Whitehead, Christian Izien, Tykee Smith
LS: Evan Deckers
P: Jake Carmada
K: Chase McLaughlin

Quandre Mosely - he was cut.
All teams are using their practice squad in roster planning. I think we could do better using our IR as our talent grows.

Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
We will focus on someone that is a guard/center back-up I would think. Plus practice squad eligibility.

They are also good at talent evaluation and developing talent. Something I think the Buccaneers are not as good at.Bootz wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:20 pmIt seems like we're trying our darnedest to keep that SB roster for as long as we can. 2 things the Patriots & Chiefs did that helped them build dynasties are 1: they found a QB. And 2, probably as important as finding the QB, they moved on from players as soon as their value was out outweighed by their price tag. They weren't afraid to trade young players on their prime whereas we think it's more important that they become long term franchise players. But in trading young players they got resources in return which allowed them to turn the roster over year after year to field the best possible 53 man roster.Snake wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:51 pm Looking through this roster, it just shows you how good the Super Bowl roster was. Hard to imagine will see the one like that anytime soon.
This season, the Bucs need the old guard to remain studs and/or healthy (Evans, LVD, Vea, Dean). No small feat. Long in the teeth or prone to getting hurt already.
And frankly, they need a whole lot of young guys to take a step forward. These stick out:
McCollum, Mauch, Kancey, Dennis, Diaby.
I’ve given up on JTS being a stud, and Nelson is Nelson. An admirable JAG.
That ain't us and probably never will be under Licht.
Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
Interesting on the roster construction. I wonder how much things like likely player health, the ability of TE play, etc impact roster decisions. Example: Having Gronk likely made WR 4/5 less important.kaimaru wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 12:17 am I was noticing how our rosters have built built since Arians got here and how Bowles constructed his roster last year. 3 QBs/4 RBs/6 WRs/4 TEs/9 OLs and Bowles reduced QBs to 2 and WRs to 5.

I agree. And I think that's why we try to hold on to any player who worked out well here for as long as humanly possible. Even long after their price tag outweighs their value.13F11B wrote: ↑Fri May 17, 2024 9:09 amThey are also good at talent evaluation and developing talent. When it all starts it will be which 21 players get cut.
Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
What kind of players are we going to need with this new fango kick off?
Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
Wait... I'm sorry... are we whining about resigning our all star players because we already won a SB with them?
Y'all talk about these guys like the glory years are behind them. Evans is the oldest at 30. What are y'all taking about?

Actually not 1 person is whining about that or even mentioned that as being a problem. But in true Doc effort to try and be the smartest in the room you fabricated a position and then created an argument to your fabrication.

Ah okay, hewww. Sometimes these posts can come off a bit tricky.
Can't think of a single player on the roster I'm not happy having re-signed.
Evans, AWJ, Casey, Baker, LVD.

Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
I definitely did notice the Patriots used to trade off their better players and always think it was a good strategy. But the Chiefs and Patriots both had one thing that we don’t: a superstar at QB
What other options do we have than to re-sign our talent when we have a mid tier QB?
And the Bucs aren’t good at growing talent? Licht’s Bucs have found a ton of talent in the draft compared to most other teams it seems

Re: Way way too early 53 man roster prediction
Specifically about this, not questioning or debating your roster prediction, but getting your opinion. You noted the difference in roster building. Do you think it's because of the players or the coaching philosophy? I ask because I was under the same impression as you, but I went back and looked at the Bucs opening day roster in 2022 (Bowles' 1st season as HC), and noticed that he had 3 QB's, 4 RB's, 7 WR's, 3 TE's, & 8 OLs.kaimaru wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 1:02 am I was noticing how our rosters have built built since Arians got here and how Bowles constructed his roster last year. 3 QBs/4 RBs/6 WRs/4 TEs/9 OLs and Bowles reduced QBs to 2 and WRs to 5.

Maybe having Brady, he felt that an extra QB (because of Brady's age), was more prudent and also assuming a healthy Brady, a more pass oriented offense made sense. With Mayfield, he's younger, so you'd expect less chance of injury and more athletic (escapability), but also a less commodity with passing, so he'd be more run oriented?
On defense, he had 7 DL's, 8 LB's (4/4), 5 CB's, & 3 S's... so he evidently added a DL, dropped an OLB, and dropped as safety in Y1, then in Y2, he kept 7 DL's, added 2 OLB's, added a CB, and dropped a safety. If that basically player preference, scheme, or expectations of what he expects from the offense? Not sure I know.
