This is how we end up with "Leftwich officially hired by Jacksonville"
Chris Godwin Thread

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Happy he will be back. The best weapon on offense imo. Hopefully they can lock him up longterm.

Where in that tweet you posted does it say he has been officially tagged?King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:44 amGodwin has in fact been officially tagged. Leftwich was never officially signed. There's no correlation.
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Still time...
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
I doubt it happens but if we could re-sign Godwin in the next 3 hours that would be an unbelievably boss move by Licht
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Hang “reporters.”
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Told ya Snake, he is not going anywhere
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
You could be right. I would still be surprised. Part of me wonders if this is one of those tag-and-trade situations. Someone like the Jags would be interested I’m sure. Rather than letting him walk for free.
I’m torn. He’s a great player and offers a unique skillset that isn’t exactly easy to find. On the other hand, so many holes. The current projected starting quarterback isn’t super mobile. The meta-game right now is weapons over protection. I’d feel more comfortable having a decent run game and a good offensive line over another WR. Another factor, Licht is pretty decent at identifying WR talent. Tyler Johnson might be a miss. But the track record is good overall there.
I’m also aware that what I “want” isn’t necessarily compatible with Arians air raid-y approach. RBs are an afterthought. WRs are more important.
Tom Brady is arguably the best pocket quarterback ever in terms of sensing pressure and buying time within the pocket. There’s going to be regression across-the-board at QB and I want to help a guy like Trask as much as possible with protection.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Yes. $25M is the new going rate for a #1 WR.
A great #2 is $20M easy.
So yeah, it just depends on how you see Godwin. With no injury, I have no doubt someone see's him as a #1.
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Case and point:
Been saying it since we tagged him last year Godwin was getting Cooper money.

Welp, Godwin’s price just went up if Mike Williams is getting that coin.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Keep in mind Williams and Godwin came from the same draft and he has fewer catches, yards, and TD catches, is 18 months older than Godwin and he just got $20mil a year. He's also never made a Pro Bowl or All Pro team has just like Godwin has 2 1000 yard seasons in 5 years.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
$20m is 20% less than $25m. Williams is a good comp even though he has more juice than Godwin and is bigger. Less productive overall at present. Both #2’s who benefit from playing next to a conventional #1 who draws coverage and harder matchups.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Doc, you keep saving that yet there's only 1 WR signed to a contract that is even close to $25mil and it was only a 2 year deal.

Did you find that official tag announcement yet?King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 2:15 pm Keep in mind Williams and Godwin came from the same draft and he has fewer catches, yards, and TD catches, is 18 months older than Godwin and he just got $20mil a year. Wait for this market to play out. They'll be more than 1. Yesterday's outrageous is today's new normal. We do this every offseason.King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 2:17 pmDoc, you keep saving that yet there's only 1 WR signed to a contract that is even close to $25mil and it was only a 2 year deal.
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
After that Mike Williams deal, 3/$70 sounds reasonable. Needing to tag him again would really suck.

This fucking coward is going to hide until 4:01.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
Think this is goodbye to Carlton Davis.
Re: Chris Godwin Thread
It's goodbye for a whole lot of players. At this point I just hope they somehow get a long-term deal that is more cap friendly before July 1st or whatever the deadline is.

No, the question I want answered is "so it wasn't official back at 1050a?" see, it's right there in the post you quoted.King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:49 pmI think the question you really want answered is how does this compare to the Byron Leftwich situation.

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
The timing is sort of irrelevant. Everyone pretty much knew he was getting tagged. You wanna quibble over what time it happened, knock yourself out. I see it's a very important matter to you.nybf wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:51 pmNo, the question I want answered is "so it wasn't official back at 1050a?" see, it's right there in the post you quoted.King Bootz wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:49 pm

Re: Chris Godwin Thread
I like Chris, but I’m disappointed that the team had this long to work out a long term deal and couldn’t.
I also continue to question the point in spending so much money on WRs when you have no QB, your OL is in shambles, our TEs are looking rough with no Gronk and we have no RBs under contract. Not to mention our secondary is now going to get gutted in FA.
We will see how the whole offseason shakes out first, but I don’t like the look of things for the Bucs in 2022 and beyond. At least when I’m concerned about it I can just look at the Super Bowl LV banner up in my office and feel better about it.
