In the first round of the 2023 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select...

Post by Nano »

It's never too early to start :P

What do we know about the 2023 NFL draft at this point...it's huge on star power. Two borderline elite QB prospects in Stroud and Young. A sack machine that probably would've gone 1st overall in this draft(Will Anderson), and the best WR in either draft in Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

From the early early mock drafts, it's also apparently big on DBs. And with the 29th overall pick in the 2023 Draft the Bucs select

Rashad Torrence, S, Florida
Image

An instinctive safety to replace the safeties we've lost. Jordan Whitehead left this year, and Mike Edwards probably leaves next year.

Secondary seems like the most likely option. Jamel Dean, Sean Murphy-Bunting, Mike Edwards, Logan Ryan and Keanu Neal all free agents. I’m not sure how much I’m willing to spend to keep them around since we will probably have to give AWJ a big payday to stick around. Both corner and safety on the table.

Jordan Battle, S, Alabama.

Every safety on the roster besides Winfield will be a FA after this season.

Joey Porter Jr, CB, Penn State

Son of Pro Bowl LB Joey Porter, this kid has the tools and the pedigree. With SMB and Dean both being free agents, at least one will need to be replaced.

I'd like a pure cover safety but it doesn't seem like a priority for Bowles.

This is almost impossible, but I'll throw out a name:

Noah Sewell, LB, Oregon. 6'3 250 and moves like a guy 20 pounds lighter. Can blitz, can cover.

Really fun list I saw. After the 2021 draft, these were the odds to go #1 in the 2022 draft in Vegas:

Spencer Rattler +225. He got benched and transferred.
Sam Howell +350. He went in the 5th Round.
Kayvon Thibodeaux. +400. He was fifth overall.
Derek Stingley +800. He was third overall.
Kedon Slovis +1000. He got benched and transferred.
Malik Willis +1500. Third Rounder.
JT Daniels +1800. Injured/Benched and transferred.
Emory Jones +2000. Totally mediocre and is transferring.
Jayden Daniels +2000. Totally mediocre and transferred.
Kyle Hamilton +2500. Mid-First Round Pick.

Hutchinson and Walker weren't even on the board.

Nephi, the other other brother, is legit too! Played LB for Utah and Saints picked him up as an UDFA.

Zion Nelson, OT, Miami

Always draft Zions. Also you can never have too many OTs. JL was a wizard locking down two bookend OTs for Brady's tenure here. However, whether or not Tom continues here Smith will be entering the final year of his contract. Wirfs will obviously have his 5th year picked up. Having a guy like Zion being groomed/depth for a year before taking over opposite of Wirfs is smart.

I'm thinking the whole draft will once again go by weight of need determined by the Buc Brass.

So, as of right now, we pick 10th. Tankathon has a constantly updated Mock draft so with our new slot(3 rounds), they give us

1. Myles Murphy, Edge, Clemson
2. Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida
3. Zach Evans, RB, Ole Miss

Our fanbase would explode.

Zach Evans is a good player. But I’m not taking him in the first round. Just seems like a bad idea given the state of the team.

Sometimes it’s obvious. It usually gets more murky when you get out of the top 10.

In my opinion, during a total rebuild, pretty much everything should be on the table. I’m leery of running backs though. Look at Saquon. Probably the most special back in the last 5 to 10 years to come out. They’re competing in the fifth year of his rookie contract, right? Didn’t before that. And whoever gives him another contract would likely be seen as fools.

Well, from looking at the boards it would appear that IOL is a weakness in this year's draft. I would say a 2nd or 3rd round pick for a guard would be appropriate. I like what I have seen from Olumuyiwa Fashanu, OT (Penn State), Isaiah Foskey, Edge (Notre Dame), and Jalen Carter, DL (Georgia). I need to see a little more from Jack Campbell, LB (Iowa), and Matthew Bergeron, T (Syracuse).

Does Jalen Carter need ankle surgery? I know some of you guys want to trade some off - but we only got six picks.

I have not heard anything about an ankle issue. I know he is out right now due to a knee injury. Something to keep an eye on and certainly look at during the combine or visit.
