Re: Tennis
I've seen arguments that her 23 majors (1 more than Nadal, 2 than Djoker) puts her as the best for either sex, but I just get buy into that narrative. She would get destroyed in her prime by most professional men. There's no reason to try to compare them...they can be the best in their respected categories and not diminish each other.
Re: Tennis
Think about this, (arguably) the top three men of all time are all playing in the same era. Imagine if Djoker/Nadal didn't exist; would Fed have 50 majors? Same with Djoker/Fed, would Nadal have twice as many as Serena?

Re: Tennis
Nadal has lost 7 times in Grand Slams to Fed/Djoker...so we can say maybe 7 more. Probably not for Nadal, he's always been a specialist.

Re: Tennis
All but 1 of Federer's losses in Grand Slams have been to those two. Damn.
That's 10 times, 6 to Nadal, that one of the other best 3 of all-time stopped him.
I also didn't realize that Nadal is 24-16 against Fed. Djokavic is 27-23 against Fed and 30-29 against Nadal.

Do you not remember Billie Jean King?uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:43 amI've seen arguments that her 23 majors (1 more than Nadal, 2 than Djoker) puts her as the best for either sex, but I just get buy into that narrative. Re: Tennis
King wasn't even close to being the best women's tennis player at the time, but her opponent wasn't all that good either. At the time of their match. King was #1 back in 1966. Riggs was last #1 in 1939. The match was played in 1973. So, not exactly in their primes. But, yeah...Riggs was like a geriatric when they played._MB_ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:07 amDo you not remember Billie Jean King?uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:43 am

I do. Are you saying she's better than Serena or that her beating a retired 55 year old former male professional says something?_MB_ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:07 amDo you not remember Billie Jean King?uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 9:43 am

I also remember the Williams sisters getting destroyed by the 200th ranked male who "took it easy". Even Serena on Letterman said that females couldn't beat a top 350 active male player.

It's proof that all men do not dominate all women in all things.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:14 amI do. Are you saying she's better than Serena or that her beating a retired 55 year old former male professional says something?

She's 78 years old and could still whip my ass at Tennis.

At the highest level they do, absolutely. She could kill me in Tennis as well._MB_ wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:16 amIt's proof that all men do not dominate all women in all things.uscbucsfan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 10:14 am

We have youth soccer teams that can beat the US Womens National team.
Re: Tennis
A few years ago McEnroe said 35 y/o Serena would rank around #700 on the male tour. Created quite a stir. He’s the definition of controversial. But his sentiment seemed genuine enough.

We all know what will reverse this stat. But that's a discussion for the politics forum.

You guys are incredible.
One of the GOAT Tennis players retires and y'all are over here talking about "Men more gooder".

Re: Tennis
I personally didn’t enjoy watching Serena beating up on eastern bloc waifs. But I respect dominance.

Re: Tennis
Biological males are bigger, stronger, and faster than females, generally speaking.
That fact shouldn't take away from the fact Serena was one of the most remarkable and dominant female athletes ever in the way she performed against her peers in her era.
It's just biology, which I understand is at times inconvenient to some of tenants of your newfound religion.

It does take away from Serena Williams because all we're here to do is acknowledge her career.Dread wrote: ↑Tue Aug 09, 2022 11:00 amBiological males are bigger, stronger, and faster than females, generally speaking.

But for some reason we have to put a caveat on that.
Re: Tennis
Remember when she ran away from a PED test and locked herself in a panic room? Wonder if that test ever happened.

The least shocking thing ever is that you've embraced the moniker. Maybe z will give your hair an extra tussle next time you're down there.
Re: Tennis
She is a phenomenal athlete, regardless of sex. Both physically and mentally. Outside of that, all you can do is beat the competition in front of you, and she did that with unprecedented regularity. So yes, I think she is the best tennis player ever because she dominated her sport. I don't care if she could or could not beat a man, she dominated her sport.
Re: Tennis
Best female athlete ever: Caitlyn Jenner.

Re: Tennis
The tennis community doesn't like Margaret Court. Her own country doesn't even like her. She's never mentioned with the greats in tennis. So her opinion here is a lot of "Oh okay. Next."

One of the best males, sure.
Re: Tennis
Arguably, probably the GOAT peak tennis player. It’s too bad his prime did not fully coincide with his rivals’.
