Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
That doesn't seem like a particularly credible source but I'd gladly give up a second this year for Lance. I'd give up 50 and 82 for him.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
Depends on the QB. Lance is not one of those QB imo.

You need a great QB to consistently compete for championships. Lance may never even be a good QB but at such a small price and only in 2023, it's worth taking the shot. You don't need for it to work a high percentage of the time for it to be winning gamble.

But don't you think the 49ers know this as well? They paid a steep price for Lance. I had this out in another thread already, but if they're trading him for pennies on the dollar we should wonder why. It can't be because they think Brock Purdy or Sam Darnold are the answer. It's because they definitely think Lance isn't.Naismith wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 10:29 amYou need a great QB to consistently compete for championships. I feel the last part somewhat contradicts the first part.Naismith wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 10:29 amYou need a great QB to consistently compete for championships. Either way, I agree with the last part more. I doubt anyone here would swap our last 23 years for the Packers or Saints.

I would ask Jeff Garcia to come back before making a trade for Trey Lance.

Bucs just picked up Wirf's 5th year option. He's definitely a keeper if he can stay healthy.
Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I definitely think the Niners think this but they also thought he was worth three firsts two years ago so they clearly aren't infallible. In addition, there are circumstances that have impacted this decision and Brock Purdy is one of them.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 10:34 amBut don't you think the 49ers know this as well? I listen to a lot of analysts that know far more than I do about this sort of stuff and they often talk about Kyle Shanahan being a top 10 QB on his own, that his QB is effectively an avatar that Shanny controls from the sideline. When they traded up, they did so with the intention of taking Mac Jones but Shanahan was talked into Lance because he added an extra dynamic. But with Purdy, you have a guy that carries off Shanahan's preferred offense precisely how he wants it and costs 3 million total over three seasons. With a team as stacked as the Niners, that is a huge advantage.

Here's an article from Bill Barnwell that illustrates what I'm saying.Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 11:26 amI feel the last part somewhat contradicts the first part.Naismith wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 10:29 am

Adam Levitan tweeted this out, "This @billbarnwell chart is for pick 26, but illustrates the point. Due to rookie scale contracts vs. current veteran QB market, taking swings over and over again makes sense."
Basically, the reward for a rookie contract QB is so disproportionately high, it's hard not to be a good pick even if it misses at a high rate.

The "rookie QB cheat code" is a siren's call.

The ultimate BPA chart. We just draft QBs in the first every year. Roster construction be damned.
But, apply those concepts to team needs and you’ve got something.

Team needs are subjective in terms of importance.
Best player is more subjective than that.

Everyone preaches best player available, but they all draft the best player available based on their roster needs._MB_ wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 3:31 pmHere's the rub on BPAGrahamburn wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 2:36 pm The ultimate BPA chart. QB is a unique outlier as a position. I guess you could say K, P, and LS too.

It sucks that Gio’s most notable moment as a Buc was dealing with Jenna Laine being an ass after a game.

I noticed - it was like a perceived 100% group that all agreed. It made me feel sad and unheard..

Re: Tampa Bay Buccaneers Official 2023 Off Season Thread
I really don’t like how much we have prioritized the defense this offseason after how the offense looked last year. It’s part of the reason I just wanted Bowles gone and to start fresh, you can tell we have a DC running the team.GreatTimes wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 3:41 pmBowles is a defensive coach and thus drafts defensive players. I see a lot of sacks in the Buc's future. That would be the Bucs QB's being sacked.
Hopefully we invest something into the offense tonight and we just don’t have to sell ourselves on a first time OC waving a magic wand over our problems.

Most of our free agents were from the defensive side of the ball.

Lack of doing offense through first three rounds?
Lets see what's been picked.
5 QB's
7 RB's
9 TE's
9 OT's
2 G's
4 C's
14 WR's

I’m thinking Bucs are going WR/RB next.

"BPA by need" us just need.

[Ian Rapoport] The #Bucs have added to their QB room, signing former #Rams QB John Wolford. He joins Kyle Trask and Baker Mayfield in Tampa.

I'm probably reading too much into this but my first thought was that they still don't trust Trask to be the backup.

Yea we needed to add someone even for a camp arm. Wolford is trash but has started some games, he’s basically west coast Ryan Griffin
