I’d ask Baker who he liked from that Rams staff. Basically the same offence, and they have a bunch of intriguing guys.

Van Pelt. People want continuity... Mayfield played 2 years in his system.

Someone from the Rams would be my choice. Ask Baker who he liked working with over there.

Eric Bienemy or promote Lewis. Guarantee that no matter how good the offense is they'll never get hired by another team as their HC.
Most hated man in America.

Why wouldn't you? People have been complaining about Mayfield never being in the same system, that's why he never put up better numbers (that's not true by the way, as his HC and OC were the same in 2020 & 2021), but there's merit to that argument. Alex Smith is a perfect example. When you have a young/developing QB, it's best if they have a strong foundation.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:27 pmWe want continuity with our system lolCannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:23 pm Van Pelt. Wait, you just questioned continuity, and then proposed someone who'd bring continuity? Honest question... Jared Goff went to a Super Bowl in LA. McVay who's supposed to be the QB whisperer, cut him lose. Goff is now better than he ever was in LA, and you want someone from LA who doesn't even control the offense? You want their Pete Carmichael/Byron Leftwich/Eric Bienemy?

So you want to completely change the offence… again???CannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:42 pmWhy wouldn't you? Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
Wait, what? The topic of this thread is who'd we want as our OC, if we have to replace ours. If we have to replace Canales, we have to change the offense because the offense is leaving. We're running Canales' offense... not Todd Bowles'. If Canales leaves, we need a new offense. I thought this was common sense.real bucs fan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:47 pmSo you want to completely change the offence… again???CannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 1:42 pm

Also, like I said in my post, Mayfield was with Van Pelt for 2 seasons... he won't have to learn a new offense, he already knows that one.
Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
Keenan McCardell would be a good hire, and I think would help keep Evans here. Also good with Bieniemy or Lewis.
Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
I believe we’ll find someone better
Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
I really didn't think Carolina would hire Canales. There have been some pretty unimpressive hires to this point.

How are there two threads with the exact same title started by two different people?
Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
This is like the day after grades given to team drafts.
Nobody knows if these hires are unimpressive or the best decision in the franchise's history.
Hurry up and wait, folks.

Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
I had a strong feeling/fear they were going to poach Canales. Especially after they hired Dan Morgan.
The situation was just way too primed. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if part of the Dan Morgan hire was him selling Tepper he could land Canales at a time when they couldn't land a gym teacher to coach there.Doctor wrote: ↑Wed Jan 24, 2024 10:57 amThis. This dude has learned a new offense every season. I want to see what he can do when he is allowed to grow in an offense instead of learning a new one.
I think there's a good chance he leaves. After Geno and Baker he's the hottest name in the QB whisperer game. And when you are both all in on your rookie savior while already on your second coaching regime, that's exactly the guy you go after.

I made that suggestion about an hour ago.

Apparently OP didn't like my suggestion... then proceeded to do the same thing.

Obviously a relationship with Baker. Granted, I have no idea if it’s a good one.CannonFire wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:25 pmMy first thought was lack of quality under center, but that can't be it... can it?

Not saying we should hire him, but no coach was getting anything done with Sam Howell at QB.

Re: Didn’t expect we’d have to do this but… OC options?
I don't know if he's good or not, but suggestion was based on Mayfield playing under the system for 2 seasons. My comment here that you replied to was me being a wise ass to what seemed to be an inconsistent opinion. On one hand, he's happy with Mayfield, but questions the OC he played under for 2 years. The interesting thing is, Cleveland's offense got better after Mayfield left and on top that, there was never consistent QB play. There was a backup, the a guy who missed a season +, then a backup, then a guy they brought out of retirement. All that, and his offense went from 20th (with Mayfield), to 18th, then 10th.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:27 pmObviously a relationship with Baker. You're sure that it was Howell's fault?Miller4Prez64 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 3:34 pmNot saying we should hire him, but no coach was getting anything done with Sam Howell at QB.
