He’ll be the highest paid OL in short order. My guess is 30 per year

I'm hoping $28.5. Though we don't mind laying on thick incentives on top.

It's financially in our advantage in the short term to extend him. Long term, there is that marriage of his value to his price tag and how that fits with our plans. Big deal? Not right now. He's not the only player holding out in the league. But the sooner he's under contract the better for all involved.

$28.5 would make him highest paid, just passing what Sewell received so I'd agree with that.

But an incentive laden deal? Not gonna happen for a player who's one of the best at his position with a relatively clean bill of health, zero off field problems, and going into his 2nd contract.

There were videos put out by the team showing Wirfs in the building working out the day after we drafted Graham Barton, meeting him and shaking hands.

Wirfs is gonna get his work in, and he already has been doing so. This is purely a contract thing and that's fine.

The dude is gonna get his extension, make no mistake, we just need to iron out the details with his agent for a deal that likely resets the market at his premium position. And I'm totally fine with that.

I mean, what else are we gonna do, NOT pay Tristan Wirfs? That would be the dumbest thing Jason Licht has ever done, and I think he'd agree with me.

This is just the agent flapping his wings a bit. He know could get at least one GM to bite on a stupid huge deal for Wirfs on the free market but he also knows he isn't going to get anywhere near that market deal. Currently the leverage is all on JLs side. With a 5th year and two tags Wirfs is due fat checks with no injury protection and not a lot of ways to play this. But we do right by our guys. I'd be shocked if we didn't get him the $ title over Sewell.

Interesting that Opeta is the day one left guard. It's only OTAs, but still.

Another notable thing, Kevin Klein is apparently a third stringer.

You're arguing semantics here. He ain't at OTAs because of his contract. He's not the only one in the league. Does that make you feel better, kiddo?

We all know he’s going to be the highest paid tackle. He’s smartly just waiting until it’s done.

Yup. Had to look up the primary LT backup. Guys played 35 snaps of offense since 2021 and 0 at LT.

Tom Krasniqi (think I got the spelling right) on the afternoon drive home radio show was talking about 4/120/80 or 5/150/90. Huge numbers, but in line with the market and Wirfs' production, ability, and availability.

Absolutely insane that two homegrown talents are resetting their respective markets.

Enjoy it, folks. It's a rare occurrence.

This is why you take BPA in the draft. Usually all-stars like this just don't get away, so if you didn't draft them you aren't seeing them.

Incredible to have so many top 5s in so many positions.

It is not to far fetched that Mayfield could get hurt and Trask actually does well. May not happen but everyone will see that he did get his chance.

Of course this is a possibility. It's not far fetched for Baker to turn back into the guy who had a 1 to 1 TD-to-INT ratio. Trask could be the 2nd coming of Dan Marino. Possibly? Of course..

Probability of those things happening aren't as high though.

If Baker was 6'5" would he be a better QB?

If Baker were 6-5 he'd be Ryan Tannehill.

He's a 7th round pick. Not exactly a lock to make the Jags roster. Could be this year's Jose Ramirez.

Some people do like accuracy in words. We all know it is not your strong point, but you need to stop acting like a petulant little girl every time someone calls you out for being inaccurate. Its almost like you are crying for attention more than contributing solid information to a discussion.

The two hallmarks of @Bootz
  • Being loose with words and when corrected on it whine about semantics
  • Arguing with people about imagined things they said (which they did not) and then accusing them of backpedaling

Nope.

The majority of players go broke in time. The knuckleheads do so quicker. This is common in the NFL and as well as the NBA. Allen Iverson made $200 million as a NBA player and declared bankruptcy two years after he retired, famously saying that he couldn't afford a cheeseburger at the time.

It's not making money that's the problem, it's lifestyle and entourage creep that's the issue.
