Way Too-Early Mock 2025 NFL Draft

Post by Phantom »

Many mock drafts predict either offensive tackle or cornerback for us. It seems they see that our offensive line as weak. I concur that acquiring a cornerback is need, and I would be thrilled with the selection of Travis Hunter. If we secure a top 3 pick, we should draft for exciting quarterback like Sanders.

Yahoo & PFF has us picking 12th, Walter Football, 247, & APNews 10th, Fox 13th.

That means these outlets think that we're not only not going to win the division or make the playoffs, but have a losing record. Yet, none of them think we'd take a QB? Odd.

@CannonFire We inked a deal with Baker Mayfield for a 2-3 year contract. If we select another offensive tackle in the draft, and assuming we are in the top 5 picks in 2026, that rookie quarterback will have solid protection from those offensive line

I prefer selecting CB Travis Hunter over OT. IMO

If we're picking that high it's gonna be a QB.

I don't disagree with that theory, but that's assuming (and possibly rightly so), that Goedeke isn't doing a good job on the right side. If he is however, we know he's not good as an iOL, so adding a tackle gives us a player (assuming RT), that we don't need. It's kind of like drafting a QB when you just signed one for 4 years.

If Goedeke is doing well at RT, then we already have the solid protection in place, so why not draft the rookie QB. Heck, by all accounts, we already have "solid protection", as virtually every outlet that I've seen read, has the Bucs PASS blocking as top third in the league.

One thing this organization should NEVER do, is go with the plan that Mayfield is the answer. Replacing him should always be at the top of the "To Do" list, going forward. Now, if there is no franchise QB available, then fine, so be it. We have no idea how many QB's coming out next year will be considered as such. Maybe there's one, and he's taken #1. Then fine, take the best player available, but from their projections, there are as many as 5 first rd QB's. In that scenario, and Goedeke is doing just fine, the Bucs #1 priority, should be QB. Let him sit behind Mayfield for 1 year, fine with me, but then move on and move forward.

Couple things go wrong we could easily pick that high. We were incredibly lucky last year with injuries. Schedule looks tough too. 7-10 or 8-9 picks right around the top 10.

Things don't have to go wrong for us to be 7-10, they just have to play out as expected. I don't think that'll happen though. Injuries to our team and others will happen. It's possible we win 4 or 5, it's possible we win 8 or 9. I think it would be a miracle if we hit 10. Literally everything would need to break right for that to happen.

I think where they're projecting... with around the 10 to 13th pick, is reasonable.

In this scenario, numerous draft positions undergo changes, while others remain unchanged.

It appears that Travis Hunter Jr. is ranked highly on every team’s top list for the upcoming draft.

If folks are wanting a QB then I would think trade down might work.

You’re quoting posts from May. I think the draft a QB talk is pretty dead.

These mocks and comments were definitely “way too early.”

I'll quote @CannonFire who said it would be a miracle if we got to 10 wins!

Assuming we win this week, people won't be able say that miracles don't happen.

Those mocks are always too early, weirdly, they're almost always titles "Way too early draft mock".

After watching a few of these bowl games, the Bucs should draft that Jackson Dart kid. Looks like they're thinking he'd go in rounds 3 through 5. I'm good with a 3rd on him. We need to replace Trask and from what I've heard, seen, and read, this kid looks like he could be pretty solid in the NFL.

Just to replace Trask? I think someone is coming around...

Dart looked awful to me against UF. But, I can see the appeal. I do think they really like Pratt. They've activated him a few times this year, which is an indication they want to keep him.

My assumption, since the day we re-signed Baker was that he was going to get a 5 to 6 year deal in some form or fashion. I expected a 2 to 3 year extension after this season, to remove the voidable years dead money. With that, we draft Dart and in 2 years after Mayfield's initial contract is up, cut or trade him and move on to Dart. If Mayfield is still here after the 2026 season, then we'll just continue to be pretenders.

I'm fine with Pratt to be a backup... I wouldn't expect Dart to be a backup for long, I'd expect him to be the starter in the relatively near future.
