Not saying Mayfield should win it or be in consideration, but it's not unprecedented. Daryle Lamonica won it in '69 in the AFL while having the most INTS in both leagues. Warner won his second while having 22 INTs in a season (most by an MVP in a season, league leader had 24). Peyton won in 2009 with 16 INTs, same as Mayfield this season. Strangely enough also the same amount of passing yards, 4500.

So MVPs do sometimes lead the league in INTs?

Once that I'm aware of, didn't look too hard as I knew about the Lamonica season. Did a quick google search for most INTs by an MVP after that.

Baker Mayfield is just the 3rd QB in NFL history with 40+ passing TDs and a 70%+ completion percentage in a season.

Yea they do apparently. It's only been 55 years since it happened though. OH and it was an AFL MVP also..Completely relevant to today.

Sure. Daryle Lamonica is totally relevant to the MVP conversation in 2024. There's definitely a precedent set there ;) . Boy did you get one over on me, kiddo.

And for the record I don't bait @Grahamburn and he's not an idiot. He engages in discussion and makes good points. Relevant points even. He wouldn't stick to guy winning the MVP award in 1969 as evidence that someone will once again win the MVP award throwing the most picks in the league.

If Baker throws a pick and the other offense doesn't score does he get to discount from his totals the same way you discount Todd Bowles misusing timeouts if the other team doesn't score? ;)

He needs to be better at protecting the ball. Agree. That's the next step. He's borderline elite and it's holding him back from getting there.

His biggest two issues have been taking unnecessary sacks and ball security, both of which seem to have improved this year.

His one major flaw this season is he turns on “hero mode” and ends up throwing picks trying to do too much.

Ironically enough 10 of his INTs came in wins.

Still recognized as an official NFL MVP award given by the AP as all AFL records/statistics/awards carried over when the two leagues merged. And yeah, still relevant as in it's happened in the history of the league. Or do we just ignore things that happened in prior eras?

Just curious @Doctor, why the down vote on this? There is nothing factually incorrect with what I posted there.

The ceiling is always gonna be low. He's one who relies on moxxy, gritty plays, getting a spark for momentum shifts. But when it comes to being a field general and operating an offense, he'll leave a lot to be desired.

No doubt about it. You watch him tonight versus a really talented multidimensional athlete like Jayden Daniels, and it really leaves a lot to be desired.

You can live with some things, but the turnovers really make it difficult.

The only thing dumber than wanting to intentionally tank for a savior in a process where you have very little control over how the pieces fall is ditching a 4500 yards 41TD QB to do so.

Baker had 3 incompletions. He made several plays with his legs, including trucking Bobby Wagner. He made an insane TD throw to Evans.

Daniels had the ball 11 more minutes and 25 plays than Baker did to look good.

Maybe next time we'll have a defense that can get off the fucking field.
We're paying the price for a half-measure taken by The Union 160 years ago.

The New Union will correct that mistake.

I can live with the fact if he is a modern Favre. But like @BucsNBills said above, give him a defense and it should be fine.

What offense did you watch all year? Out of one side of your mouth it's all about just making the playoffs when it comes to a certain someone, but when it comes to Baker his ceiling is low somehow? Make up your mind.
