What do you think the NFL would look like if it didn't have a salary cap? Which handful of teams would be the big spenders?
It’s Ok, i’m just gonna do some ketamine and fuck around with the government a little … see ya

I feel like some teams like the Yanks and Cards who normally spend might be hesitant to spend with the CBA up next year. Which might be smart to not handicap themselves in case there is a salary cap. Not that the Yankees had a bad offseason but if they wanted to spend more then could.

But owners like the Mets and Dodgers (repeat)are going for it this year and will worry later.

Surprised if that hasn't happened before now. If this was a first, expect some sort of barrier to be erected in the near future (netting or plexiglass). Oh...and a lawsuit.

Mookie Betts and Ohtani delivered an incredible performance against the Braves last night. I witnessed Ohtani hit a home run and drive in three runs. Crazy

Wow. The Rockies are historically bad.
Rockies 1st team to start modern MLB season 7-36, swept again
ESPN News Services
May 15, 2025, 12:14 AM ET

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Colorado Rockies left Texas as the first team in baseball's modern era to lose 36 of their first 43 games and hoping an off day in Arizona can help them reset.

"That's the plan," interim manager Warren Schaeffer said Wednesday night following an 8-3 loss to the Texas Rangers that was Colorado's 11th in the last 12 games. "We're looking forward to (the day off), and we're looking forward to getting after the Diamondbacks in Arizona."

The Rockies became the first team to start 7-36 in the modern era (since 1900). They were swept for the seventh time and are 0-3 under Schaeffer, who replaced Bud Black on Sunday.
.
.
.
The Rockies are 2-20 on the road, matching four other teams as the worst record after 22 games in the modern era. Wednesday's starting pitcher, Antonio Senzatela, has dropped 10 consecutive road starts since the beginning of 2022.

Colorado has struggled out of the gate in many games. It has been outscored 44-15 in first innings. In their last two losses at Texas, Rockies pitching allowed three runs to the first three hitters Tuesday, and four through the first four Wednesday.

MLB has reinstated Pete Rose. Finally.
Pete Rose, 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson reinstated from MLB's permanently ineligible list: Next stop, Hall of Fame?
The reinstated players will be eligible for the next Classic Baseball Era Committee vote in December 2027

Pete Rose, Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader, has been posthumously reinstated by Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, the league announced Tuesday. The decision removes Rose from MLB's permanently ineligible list after some 36 years as Manfred ruled that lifetime bans do not apply posthumously. Manfred's decision comes after a petition filed by California attorney Jeffrey Lenkov, who represented Rose prior to his September 2024 death at the age of 83, and public pressure from President Donald Trump.

"Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter to Lenkov. "Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve. Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list."

Shoeless Joe Jackson, who was banned for the Chicago Black Sox scandal, and 15 other late players have also been reinstated.
.
.
.
Reds owner Bob Castellini released the following statement through the club after Rose was reinstated:
"On behalf of the Reds and our generations of loyal fans, we are thankful for the decision of Commissioner Manfred and Major League Baseball regarding the removal of Pete Rose from the permanently ineligible list.

"Pete is one of the greatest players in baseball history, and Reds Country will continue to celebrate him as we always have.
We are especially happy for the Rose family to receive this news and what this decision could mean for them and all of Pete's fans."

We are witnessing the worst MLB start in 130 years.

The Colorado Rockies are on pace to lose 136 games this season, which would pass the 1899 Cleveland Spiders (20-134) for the most losses by an MLB team.

Please stop spreading those ridiculous rumors about relocating the team to Jacksonville.

MLB and the Rays have explicitly stated that they intend to remain in Tampa!

Listen, Stu is from New York when he bought the Rays. Did the Rays move to New York? No.

If you go on X, formerly known as Twitter, all of them know that the Rays are staying in Tampa, and a new stadium will be built. So, it’s good news.

The Commissioner of MLB has stated that he prefers the Tampa Bay Rays to remain in Tampa and will veto Rays attempts to relocate

Win win

I'm sure that Jax group has every intention of keeping the team in Tampa/St. Pete if they are able to buy the team. Regardless, the talk of the sale to that group is not a rumor.

The Rays were 21-26 on May 20. Since then, they lead MLB in:

Wins (19)
Runs (153)
OBP (.338)
SLG (.459)
OPS (.797)
wRC+ (129)
fWAR (6.8 )
SB (40)

8 runs comeback against the Orioles last night

They're now just 1.5 games behind the Yankees and they hold the top Wild Card spot in the AL👀

@Phantom
Some of the Jax owners-to-be also own part of the minor league club in Jax, so it would be a conflict of interest for them to have a stake in a major league team there. For whatever that's worth. If it were me, I'd just sell my part of the little guy to buy the big guy.

Be sure to go back and review the articles. One of the groups consists of investors from Tampa. They are discussing the new stadium with the Tampa Mayor. They have made it clear that they are not moving; instead, they will get a new stadium in Tampa Bay Area.

“I think we want to create something there that’s been missing, which is a true feel of community," said the hedge fund founder looking to buy the team. https://bit.ly/45tF5he

He essentially made the same point I did about The Battery in Atlanta, remember? @Bootz

Zalupski has assembled a group of investors, including Bill Cosgrove, CEO of Union Home Mortgage, which sponsors college football’s Gasparilla Bowl at Raymond James Stadium; and Ken Babby, who owns two minor-league baseball teams.

But Zalupski has competition.

He’s submitted a letter of intent to buy the team, reportedly for $1.7 billion. But that letter has an expiration date. And if that deal falls apart, Memphis hedge fund founder Trip Miller is waiting in the wings — and willing to offer more, he told the Tampa Bay Times.

It seems like every new group wants to put their stamp on it. I don't know abothe name again, but at least a uniform tweak.

Which triggers immediate merch sales, go figure.

Update!
The latest: Memphis hedge fund founder Trip Miller is leading a group that made an all-cash offer to current Rays owner Stu Sternberg, The Athletic reported.

Miller didn't name the other members of his group but made clear they're willing to raise their offer if needed. He also told the Athletic he'd like to keep the team in Tampa Bay but won't rule out Orlando.
The Orlando Dreamers aren't deterred, either, and remain optimistic on bringing Major League Baseball to Orange County should Zalupski's group close the deal, per the Orlando Sentinel.
What they're saying: "This is not a relocation play to another state," Miller told the Athletic. "You won't see the Rays relocating out of Central Florida."
