It helps the team because they can get rid of him next year without having to eat any dead cap. You don't do this to players you believe are good.

And no it isnt about you, however you seem to keep wondering why he'd be cut since he's so cheap. He's not a good player and the Bucs obviously realize that.
No, I don’t get the hate for the guy, and he is cheap compared to other starters around the league.

He held up well against one of the premiere WRs in the game.

Even if he’s just average he’s worth his contract.

Something else is going on here.
Being cheap =/= being serviceable. He just isn't and OBP isnt gonna pretend anymore.

As you can see, he knows it too. Otherwise he doesn't agree to this. He'd take his chances getting cut and finding a new contract elsewhere.

Coincidence (or not).

Reportedly this revised contract happened late in the preseason...Week 2 in the PS, Dean had a pretty bad drive vs the Steelers. That might have been the straw that broke the camels back for OBP.

Why would Dean agree to a paycut?
We're paying the price for a half-measure taken by The Union 160 years ago.

The New Union will correct that mistake.

I guess we threatened to cut him. Can’t imagine a team like the dolphins who were decimated wouldn’t have paid him more than the $4M we are now though.

The alternative was he'd likely be cut. Greg Aumen basically confirmed it on twitter.

The pay cut might have been in exchange for removing the last year of his deal?

We drafted two corners on the second day of the draft, and just resign Zyon to an extension. We are in a youth movement at the cornerback position, and Dean turns 29 next month. The writing is on the wall, provided he has the courage to read it.

Perhaps this is him betting on himself, that he can prove that he's still got enough juice in his tank to earn another big money contract before he turns 30.

Jaire Alexander is the same age as Dean and got a 1 year deal for $4M.

Looks like this is exactly what happened.

“This is what the market says you’re worth. I can cut you and you can try your luck elsewhere or you can take the pay cut in exchange for hitting free agency sooner.”

Kind of odd with Morrison injured? Or not. There must have been some assurance Dean keeps his starting spot as long as he’s healthy.

It's a Todd Bowles team. He ain't losing his starting job. Bowles let's guys look like shit week after week and never makes a move. Especially on defense.

The assurance was that he'd get to keep employment with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That's it. But it wasn't going to be at $12.5mil.

When Licht talks about having team guys and great culture, this is what he means. Guys who are loyal to the team no matter what, even if the team doesnt show that same loyalty.

Firstly, because it has already been a day and I am taking no prisoners today - it is “They’re”. Secondly I cannot believe they (especially Egbuka) would be willing to look so naive for entertainment. Thirdly, none of them are that good at “acting”.

So yes it is valid video.

Reddick was 4th in pass rush win rate week 1. 31.6%. Atlanta ran a lot of 12 personnel with chips on him too to help their RT, but he still had a really nice game.

What is Kancey's win rate?

I was majorly disappointed with Kancey. It was hard to tell he even played the game. Had almost no disruptor impact whatsoever. Many plays where he is neutralized right off the snap and he has no counter move to beat his man. All he has is a good get off and a pass rush move with no follow up if a crafty guard is prepared for it. The sad thing is, he is too undersized and weak to rely on bull rush if his finesse moves get handled.

We got on Dennis for the open field missed tackles versus Bijan (can any LB tackle him in the open field), but SVD actually played really well against the run.

Been awhile since I've had positive thoughts about special teams. If Tommy Townsend outkicks his coverage Kameron Johnson just may return one.

This guy ranks offensive/defensive coordinators based on performance in the games both overall and scripted/non-scripted.

He has Coen slightly above Grizzard after this weekend here:

and

In this chart, Griz is better off-script (and really bad on script), Coen better on script:

Unsure of the accuracy and of course not every team may use Walsh's definition of the first 15 plays being scripted as a guideline, but interesting bit of data to add to the equation. Pretty sure the early game script for us was off kilter due to the line change just before the game and everything being slightly out of sync early on. But something to track possibly as the season progresses.

Godwin out there, no running in this video but he does stretch his hamstring while balancing on the injured leg. Calves look to be similar size too.
