Former Tampa Bay Rays star Wander Franco was found guilty of sexual abuse of a minor on Thursday in the Dominican Republic, according to Juan Arturo Recio of ESPN's Dominican outlet.
His sentence for an illegal sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl is reportedly a two-year suspended prison sentence, allowing him to remain free so long as he meets certain conditions, such as not approaching minors for sexual purposes. Prosecutors had been seeking a five-year sentence.
The minor's mother, who was convicted on sex trafficking charges, reportedly received 10 years in prison.

A suspended sentence is insane.
Re: MLB 2025
The Rays have new owners. They want the Rays to play in Tampa.

Zalupski is expected to keep the team in the Tampa Bay area, with a strong preference to be in Tampa rather than St. Petersburg, the source said.
Re: MLB 2025
Not necessarily. It was a curveball so, without knowing where it was when it got to the plate, seeing it finish inside of the plate doesn't mean it wasn't a strike.

Re: MLB 2025
While that strike zone graphic isn’t perfect, it does attempt to map where the ball was when it was over the plate. That was a good 4 inches off the inside corner.
She had a good force-full call though

Re: MLB 2025
It wasn’t close. It wasn’t in the “almost close zone-outside-the-zone.”

Re: MLB 2025
Overall she had a good game. Accuracy was over 97%. MLB avg is 95%
Re: MLB 2025
So she's roughly 2(ish)% "worse" than average in her first game? Sounds good to me.
Re: MLB 2025
I'm genuinely curious how veteran MLB players' attitudes are toward this. Not the rookie or second year player, get with the Macado's the Trouts, the Lowe (both I guess), the Judge's, the Profars, the real, long-tenured dudes...and see if they want any human factor. Just genuinely curious here.

With the sale of the Rays being made official, potentially in a matter of weeks, there have been talks about a new stadium being built on the campus of Hillsborough College — along N Dale Mabry Highway — near Raymond James Stadium. MORE: bit.ly/4m9a0nO
Re: MLB 2025
I can see the attraction for building their stadium in that area over the Ybor City area.

Wait, Mets collapse AGAIN?!
Re: MLB 2025
Only 9 of the 26 players on the guardians roster we’re on the team July 1
Five of their seven outfielders are rookies with under 125 career at bat. One guy has six career at bats . One guy will be making his major league debut.
I love this team
