Welcome Baker Mayfield
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Not to dump on you @CannonFire, but are you putting this game being that close on Baker's shoulder's? Granted, he missed a couple throws, but honestly I'm not seeing where the negativity toward Baker is coming from here ... ?

This is the type of game franchise QBs win actually. O-line decimated by injuries that’s patched together seemingly by drawing lots to see who plays what position lined upCannonFire wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 7:06 am LOL, we needed 5 FG's and a defensive TD to beat a team (@ home), with a backup QB and some casuals think our QB is a franchise QB.![]()
opposite one of the better d-lines in the game. Defense going to sleep in the 4th quarter and special teams acting like the short bus type of ‘special’.
QB does enough to lead the offense out to a nice lead, then has to engineer a last minute comeback. Again.
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
It’s Bakers fault a FG was blocked and returned for a TD to lose the lead with two minutes left.

Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
That is on Bowles and McGauhey. McGauhey obviously because the blocking sucks. But had Bowles called a timeout instead of taking the five yard penalty, things might've turned out differently.

In correct, I'm not putting anything on anyone's shoulders. He's cherry picking and I'm point that out. That's all I'm doing. Here's the thing, Mac Jones did the same vs Arizona. So did Stafford. Both guys lead their team down the field for a game winning FG. It happens all the time. Now, in Stafford's case, his kickers kick was blocked - if McLaughlin's kick was blocked, again, does @Central_Buc make his post? Willing to bet the answer is no. Which is why I'm saying he's cherry picking. Missing throws, not missing throws... we got into the Red Zone how many times? Twice out of 11? The offense wasn't great. It was 'ok'. Is that all Mayfield's fault? No, the OLine sucked, those penalties killed us, especially that first drive. See, not blaming Mayfield. I think he did fine. I just think the biggest reasons for us winning was our defense and kicker being able to make his FG'as and a couple long range at that, not Mayfield.
I literally NEVER said anything NEGATIVE about Mayfield. I simply said I don't think he's a franchise QB. I said he's like about 20 other QB's who are competent starters. That's not negative. I'm saying he's equal to the majority of his peers. The only people who think that's negative, are the ones putting him on a pedestal.

By this definition, Mac Jones is a franchise QB then. Tons of injuries, defense kept them in the game, he drove them down the field for a game winning FG.Pirate Life wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 8:54 amThis is the type of game franchise QBs win actually. You must be talking about yourself because, if I recall, I'm the only one on this board who said he'd be fine with Mayfield getting a 10 year contract.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 9:30 amHe closed the game out twice. Dude is incredible. At this point not being on board is just schtick.

I don’t think anyone could have an argument against this. The Panthers organization is dogshit for the way they treated Baker

Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Ah, no. Jones didn't lead his team out to a nice lead (never lead by more than one score) and only one starter on the o-line not playing (who was the weakest link on that o-line btw). Other than that, they were missing three starters on offense: Aiyuk who has been on IR all season, Kittle and Jennings. Jones still had Pearsall and McCaffrey as well as the two receivers he'd spent the most time throwing to in TC. And his defense/special teams didn't give up a double digit lead in the 4th quarter either.CannonFire wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 9:22 amBy this definition, Mac Jones is a franchise QB then. Mayfield spent the game missing 3 OL (one being the top one or two tackle in the entire NFL), his WR2 and WR3, lost his WR1 during the game and saw his defense give up 153 yards (they'd give up 114 the prior three quarters) and two TDs while also seeing the special teams give up the potential game-winning TD on a blocked field goal after he'd gotten the team in position to extend the lead with a field goal. Mayfield also had to deal with 11 offensive penalties that set the offense back a total of 100 yards.
Situations weren't remotely the same.

Including yesterday, Mac Jones has 4 4th quarter comebacks in his career. Mayfield has 4 in his last 4 regular season games dating back to last season.Primeminister wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 9:54 amI agree….if Mac Jones has this as well.CannonFire wrote: ↑Mon Sep 22, 2025 9:22 am

Yeah, I mean, it's been a few decades since I earned my Lit. degree, but I was pretty sure that "excuses" was the exact wrong word. "Facts" is literally the correct word there.

I’d let it go if he’d own how wrong he was. But, he doesn’t.
Now this week WE are triggered snowflakes and Baker is apparently no better than Mac Jones.
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
As long as he continues to protect the ball, I'll be a fan. This week will prove to be extremely difficult.

More accurately, none of the interceptions he's thrown have been caught thankfully.

He could have had several in those first two games. And his fumbles have been recovered by Bucs so far. Fortunate not to have a turnover yet.
Re: Welcome Baker Mayfield
Cannon is a clown and the fact that you guys continue to engage him is mind boggling.
