Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
If we beat the Lions, that means we should never be underestimated for the rest of the season.

If we beat the Lions, that means we beat the Lions and we're 6-1. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
If we beat the lions, we still have to go on the road against the Bills and the Rams (edit: and the Fins near season's end), host the suddenly-surging Patriots and the any-given-Sunday Cardinals, and of course play five games against our division rivals, all with the media overhyping our team which isn't as good as its record given its long list of injuries. Confidence is great but we haven't even come close to locking down the division, Atlanta is back.

I’ll try to get a little more profound.
Yes, it’ll mean we’re just 6-1.
However, in the past pre and post Brady when this team has had any kind of continued success they promptly lay a fat egg and come back to earth. I expected that against SF and it did not happen.
If they beat the Lions in Detroit with them coming off a loss? Could mean this team is just built different and has something bigger in mind than just winning the division and being 11-2 in their last 13 regular season games.

6-1
4-1 in the NFC.
4-0 on the road.
One loss ahead of Atlanta.
Another powerhouse questioning themself.
One less time "it's a Bucs life" can be used in a negative way.
Locker room stays laser focused.

We better not have a letdown against the Saints the following week
Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
If the Bucs beat the Lions, I will be extremely happy for another week.

Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
We are one game closer to home field advantage.

I think most reasonable people just understand and respect the fact that playoff spots, divisions titles and Superbowls aren't won in October. This league is hard. We aren't even halfway through the season yet. A win vs the Lions would be great but in no way does it complete the job.

Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
Think the point of the thread is to find the nuance between "job complete" and "it means nothing".

Could make the Lions say - what happened to us?

You're trying to find nuance using a point absolutely no one said. Not 1 person said it means nothing and you know this.

And, see. That is the thing. "Bad" teams or average teams that don't have loftier goals in mind would lose to the Lions because they know they have an "easy" game the following week. Which is what the Bucs would normally do. Hey, 6-2 is still great, right?
Great teams stack wins regardless of opponent. 7-1 is better.

I truly started to care in 1995. I've ate, slept, breathed Bucs since. 30 years of true fandom. When you've seen what I've seen you tend to get a little ptsd.
Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
Just think if, like me, you were subjected to those first 20 years on top of the last 30 that you've witnessed.Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 12:37 pmI truly started to care in 1995. I just think of 2 years ago, the Eagles were 10-1. They then lost 5 of the next 6, before having to go on the road for a playoff game, whereupon they got spanked all up on both butt cheeks by the Buccaneers.

No one can dispute that lol but in spite of our trauma we have the power to look for something positive. It is a choice to push against the pattern and find some light at the end of the Buc’s tunnel (and not to commit that that light is a train).Grahamburn wrote: ↑Wed Oct 15, 2025 12:37 pmI truly started to care in 1995. If we beat the Lions, that means that we can/should be taken seriously. If not, "they play in a shitty NFCS, they haven't beaten anybody that was good AND healthy...their frauds..."

If you don't want to play along you don't have to click on the thread.
Also, not sure how "shitty" the NFCS is anymore. There are more divisions with 2 loss teams than 1 loss teams.

Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
We beat the lions last year. What did it mean then?
It meant we went on a losing streak shortly after and we got bounced early in the playoffs.
The superbowl is in Feb not Oct. I'm not interested in participation trophies.

Re: Finish the sentence-If we beat the Lions, that means…
There feels like a sense of urgency from some to hurry up and get this season over with because of our early season success.
"We're the #1 seed!"
"If we beat this team in October, then we'll win the bye-week and the #1 seed!"
"Baker is MVP! Crown him!"
"Egbuka is ROY! Crown him now!"
"Godwin's catching tuddies in the Superbowl!"
Its October. There are 11 games left. As @Kress accurately pointed out the Eagles 2 seasons ago were 10-1 and steamrolling everyone. Then the wheels fell off.
If we continue doing what we need to do and getting better as a team, we'll get where we are going. But don't expect people to jump to those conclusions when we haven't even hit the halfway point of the season.

Not really. It meant Chris Godwin was tearing up the league.

It's been my understanding that happy endings cost extra....
As far as "If we beat the Lions" goes it will mean we do have a leg up for that bye and home field advantage but we still have 10 games to go and earn it
