The Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Godwin earlier this offseason despite a $30 million-per-season offer from the Patriots, according to The Athletic's Dan Pompei. Godwin is on a new three-year, $66 million contract, which shows his confidence level staying with Tampa and quarterback Baker Mayfield after winning the NFC South last season.

Yes, the New England Patriots offered Chris Godwin a multi-year contract averaging around $30 million per year, but he turned it down to re-sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Godwin ultimately chose to stay with the Buccaneers on a three-year, $66 million deal, citing family as the reason for his decision over the larger offer from the Patriots.
Patriots' Offer: The Patriots offered an average of approximately $30 million per year on a multi-year deal.
Godwin's Decision: He chose to accept a three-year, $66 million contract with the Buccaneers, averaging $22 million per season.
Reasoning: Godwin stated that his decision to stay in Tampa was based on his family, not the money.
Not a quote, tweet, note, anything of Pompei saying that was the figure.

No word salad, only dodging is from you. Just your lack of reading comprehension apparently since I’ve put the quote here multiple times.

So how about this, what do you think Godwin means in this quote:

“If I ended up going to New England, it would have been solely based off money because everything else was telling me to stay here,” he says.

It’s quoted multiple times b
That doesn't mean NE offered him more. You're assuming they did.
Not really assuming anything. And actually logic, grammar and context would mean they did. Still dodging the question I asked though.

What do you think Godwin meant when he said that if signing with New England would have solely been about the money if they didn't offer him more?

That's not for me to guess. If they offered him more, show the quote where he says as much. Again, this isnt hard.

But four other teams wanted Godwin, with the Patriots and Steelers at the forefront, according to Godwin.

The Bucs made their best offer, and then the Patriots came hard, offering an average of $30 million per year on a multiyear deal, he says. And it’s possible there was more juice to be squeezed there.
Pompei in his article referenced above. And he's referencing that Godwin said it, but you will once again claim since it's not in quotes it can't be attributed to him.

Same one has the quote from Godwin that if he was in New England it would be solely because of money.

Bizzaro world it is I guess.

He usually quotes his work as well. I guess its just a coincidence this time that he didn't quote something people say he and/or Godwin said.

From Godwin himself.
And this past offseason, with my contract being up and thinking about a life somewhere else, it just didn’t work in my head. I tried to think on it. I did. I pictured myself in other jerseys. Thought about Mariah and Ace walking around different cities. Heard from my agent about all the money I could make somewhere else. And I’m not knocking anybody for taking the money. This isn’t about all that. This decision to be a Buc was about me, about my family — about my love for Tampa. I wanted to be here, more than anything else. Simple as that.

I mean, I just read Pompei's article in The Athletic, and that quote above is pretty much what Dan said Chris told him. four other teams expressed interest, including NE, and that offer was around $30M/yr, according to Godwin. Chris talked with his wife and they decided together that they would take "less, much less, to stay in TB ."

Seems pretty cut and dry to me at this point, at least concerning the amount and why Chris left the offer on the table. "Happy wife, happy life," and all that.

Sorry, "happy wife . . ." was me. That wasn't in the actual article.

What are we insinuating here? That Dan Pompei, senior writer for the Athletic, member of the NFL HoF Selection Committee, winner of numerous awards for journalistic integrity, etc., wrote a fallacious article about Chris Godwin back in May of this year, and The Athletic left it up so they could be sued for it? Or, are we saying that Chris Godwin lied about the NE offer? Or, are we saying that Godwin's wife lied about having a talk with her husband about leaving the NE offer on the table? I don't understand what it is you're getting at now.

Nope, easy as me typing it out again so about fifteen seconds of my time.

He flat out states if he signed with New England, it was because of money. Ergo, they offered more than Tampa did because he follows it up by saying g everything else was about Tampa.

Fun reading all the ways you try to not admit the obvious though.

So you admit you're just assuming he meant they offered him more and that number in your mind was $30mil/year, correct? Since you dont have a quote.

i don't have "a tune" about this at all. I just happen to have a subscription to The Athletic, saw that Dan Pompeii allegedly wrote the article, and decided to look the article up. And presto! there it was in all its black-and-white glory.

So, there's no specific 'quote' of Chris saying that in the article. But the article is there in The Athletic, written by Dan Pompei, and he wrote that Chris told him in an interview that the offer existed, about how much it was, and that he ended up turning it down because he and his wife "wanted to stay in TB."

Again, I don't see the issue, unless you believe that Dan Pompei, Chris, or Chris' wife lied. And then the Athletic exposed themselves to legal action by publishing it and then not retracting a lie.

Which is ridiculous on its face. And everywhere else, for that matter. Don't go all Flat-Earther conspiracy nut-ball over a missing quotation mark.

Bootz wants/needs a direct quote from Godwin saying he passed up 30 million to sign for less with the Bucs. Doesn’t matter Pompei states it in the article or has a direct quote saying if he was in New England it was solely because of money. Doesn’t matter that at his press conference talking about signing with us Godwin nodded when Licht said he left generational money to resign with the Bucs. Doesn’t matter that Godwin said in response to a follow up that 9 out of 10 guys may have taken the other deal, but it’s different for him.

Basically, Bootz was wrong when he said guys don’t sign here for less a while ago outside of Evans. Rather than admit he was mistaken, he’s trying to come up with reasons we’re all wrong.

Ends one of four ways, he ducks out of the conversation after accusing everyone of being liars, he responds w/o quoting people in hopes they don’t notice, he stops responding to the topic or he just continues with his obstinate ego.

My guess is since this is a lion’s game thread, he goes with option 3 until the topic is brought up again.

What changes for you if Evans is healthy and plays on Monday?

off the top of my head, about a TD, possibly as many as 10 pts.

Mike is a game-changer; DET D will have to account for him on every play, and that will distort the defense by eating up resources, whether they straight up double him, or try to bracket/box him or whatever their counters are for guys like Mike. That should open things up for Sterling and Otton, as well as probably/possibly create holes for the running game to his side. And with DET missing several starters in the secondary, there's bound to be miscommunication issues that lead to busted coverages at points during the game.

Also, because of the chemistry between Evans and Baker, they can play the two-man game where they ad lib plays like those 10+ yd back shoulder passes to the boundary side if DET is foolish enough to show single man over Evans with a S playing deep/shaded to the field side. Or plays like that smoke route Baker and Evans ran for a TD vs. HOU (I think?).

And Grizz can take advantage of DET's banged up secondary by scheming plays that put these inexperienced DBs in decision-making binds, that either spring Mike loose for big plays or someone else like Tez or Sterling or whoever.

Bottom line, Mike creates defensive issues that no one else can (Mek will become that guy down the road, but right now it's Mike) and so long as Baker/Grizz don't get caught up in trying to chase Evan's 1,000 yds or whatever, they should be able to stay ahead of the sticks and put points up more efficiently just because Mike's on the field.
Basically, everyone that’s called on to play need to remember their practices annd film study and play as mistake free as possible.

This includes coaches. They have to be able to accurately see how the other team is playing them and make the right calls. Get the right player groupings on the field. Clock management.

Play your best and still get beat happens to every team. Just not ours this week. Please. :D

Go Bucs!
