Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 7
Well, this game was eerily familiar. A Monday Night game, Mike Evans goes down and our team that usually bakes decides to show a national audience that all the hype was just that, hype. Is this the end of the season? No, but man it would’ve been nice to show up.
Likes:
1.) The defense as a whole made enough plays to keep us in the game. It may have seemed bad, but that was only because the offense wasn’t getting the job done.
2.) Tez Johnson made some great catches and runs after the catch, and when he wasn’t he was giving encouragement to the other receivers by chest bumping them.
3.) Otton can play.
4.) Dean can stay.
Dislikes:
1.) Think I’ve heard enough tolling of the church bells for a lifetime after our 16-play 4th quarter drive that resulted in zero points.
2.) Text my buddy, “We’re gonna get screwed” when they broke for commercial to review the Otton 4th down stretch. Sure enough the NFL finds a way to have the Lions fail the challenge but yet reward them their challenge back and change the call on the field. Campbell was so pleased he decided to absurdly waste it later in the game.
3.) Speaking of always getting screwed why do the doinks always bounce in for our opponents?
4.) What was with that Lions’ secondary? I certainly don’t remember trotting out Leonard Johnson and Danny Gorer thinking they’d shut down a high-powered offense.
5.) If I ever meet SirVocea Dennis I’m not high-fiving him. Not because it wouldn’t be cool, but because he’d miss my hand.
6.) Last year Aiden Hutchinson had 4.5 sacks against us and somehow that was less disruptive than last night.
Random:
1.) What’s happened to the advertising on Monday Night Football? Skin cream and stretchy jeans for men? Really?
2.) Additionally, why put the graphic up advertising the next game? Like we’re going to forget? Everyone watching an early Monday Night game knows there’s another one to come.
As bad as it seems, and I know it was bad. We’re more injured, lost Mike Evans for the year which has never happened, Grizzard was not a wizard, the linebackers suck, we can’t stop their stars, we can’t perform on primetime games. It’s all there, in front of us for all to see. But, we’ve been here before. In fact, we’ve been worse off before. We’re 5-2 boys. There was talk we’d lose the last 4 games and we came out at .500. The Lions have looked like we have last night, so have the Eagles, Bills, and Chiefs. Where I trust Bowles the most is in situations like this. He has not lost the locker room, and he’ll in fact rally it. I’m ready to get a win next week and go into the much needed bye.

Your column is exactly what my soul needed this morning. Thanks for another good write-up.

Thanks for your post. I am still pissed off about the game. Mostly because it was awful to watch Mike get injured in that way.

Forgot a Dislike: Baker practicing with Mike all week so Tez needed a racquet up his ass to catch anything.
As for Mike going down it is so disappointing, he deserves nothing but the best. He deserves to go out on his terms and accomplish whatever he feels he needs to because he has given us so much success. With that said he has been so selfless and I continue seeing that from him. As soon as the initial disappointment wears down we will be a better offense. As someone said it on here before. We don't have to worry about the streak any longer. We don't have to feed Mike the ball. We can let the offense grow and let others emerge and as we do so, Mike will be on the sidelines cheering for them. He'll line up next to them in the future if he so chooses to.

It was so strange to see. I was thinking about this this morning and wondering if Mike’s speed (and height) was such that Baker could count on him to jump up or catch up to where he was throwing the ball <shrug>

I am still salty that DPI was not called on the Evans injury.
Re: Ichabod's Monday Analysis: Week 7
He also had all the weight on the defender landing on him too. Of course that's gonna snap a collarbone.
