Welcome Zyon McCollum
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
In the fifth round, the Bucs get their developmental corner with absurd athletic metrics. 6'2", 200lb, runs a 4.3 40, has a near 40" vertical and an 11' broad jump.
Color me intrigued. At the very least he offers great reps on specials this year, with plenty of upside to be a boundary corner in future.
I love it.

Way to yield cheb.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Another very on brand pick.

Jamel Dean
SMB
Zyon
The difference in quickness is pretty remarkable (with Dean). Hopefully this will help in stopping the quick passing attack.

NFL radio loves the pick. Saying he was a stud at the senior bowl and led the nation with 95 passed defended.Cheb wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 2:49 pm In the fifth round, the Bucs get their developmental corner with absurd athletic metrics. 6'2", 200lb, runs a 4.3 40, has a near 40" vertical and an 11' broad jump.

Steal of the draft candidate? Seems like one helluva athlete.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Why did he fall? I’d like to hear that.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Zyon is what we call a pace car.
I don't know who is going to win an extension between Dean and SMB, but they are going to be better than Zyon. Or it will be neither.

Knowing very little about the prospects in this draft and the guys we took, this pick seems to be the best we've made. At least neck and neck with the Hall pick yesterday.

Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
I think he’s raw but he’s got so much raw athletic ability. I like the gamble. I literally would have been happy with him at either of our fourth round picks. Good move from Licht. Still need another veteran at corner before camp IMO. But this is a nice developmental piece for Todd Bowles.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Thought you all would like this little gem.Zyon McCollum grades as the most athletic cornerback in the past 35 years
As teams finalize their draft boards with just over 24 hours to go before the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft gets underway, there’s one cornerback prospect who’s generating some late buzz, which could help him rise up the ranks. No, it’s not even Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley Jr., or even Trent McDuffie. Instead, it’s Zyon McCollum out of Sam Houston State, an FCS program.
Sure, he may not be like the others listed above, who are all projected to be first-round picks on Thursday night, but McCollum has all of them beat in one specific category that’s highly important for playing the cornerback position, especially in the NFL. What advantage does McCollum have over the top cornerback prospects in the draft? His athleticism.
According to Kent Lee Platte, the inventor of the famed “RAS” or Relative Athletic Score, McCollum graded out with a perfect 10/10 score. How rare is this for a cornerback to achieve? Extremely rare, in fact, it’s never happened.
Out of the 2001 cornerback prospects graded from 1987-2022, McCollum ranks No. 1 as the most athletic corner of all time.
Needless to say, a score of this nature should help improve his standing among some analysts.
At 6-foot-2, 199 pounds, McCollum sprinted out to a 4.33 40-yard dash time at the NFL Draft Combine. This helped put him on the map, helping many evaluators take further notice of what they saw on tape in college. McCollum also had a 39.5″ vertical leap. But it’s not all measurables with McCollum, he also intercepted 13 passes in college.
So on draft night when you’re hearing about the impressive athleticism of the top corners, remember the name Zyon McCollum. He may not be a first-round prospect, but whoever lands him (likely on Day Two or early on Day Three), could be getting an athletic freak who has all the intangibles needed to succeed at the next level.

Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Zyon’s 20 yard shuttle is only 0.02 seconds slower than prime Edelman.
0.14 second faster 3 cone drill.
He’s quick. Very quick.

If he has the brains for the position and can process information, watch out. He has the tools. Just have to coach him up.

Well let's hope we found more than a guy who is an exceptionally gifted athlete. We literally drafted Darden because he had breakaway speed and elusiveness against slow guys

Well for those complaining about not taking a CB with the 4th round choice, what's your thoughts on this one?
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
There’s a reason one of the top 10 freak athletes in the draft fell to the fifth round. Just tempering expectations here. CB is the most difficult position in the NFL outside of quarterback. You have to be great physically to even get on the field. You have to be really good mentally or risk being a total liability. I like the pick. But, I’m putting the odds on him putting it all together as very slim. I still like it for the upside.

Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
What was that one LB we had who was also a freakish athlete? He was coming into his own before he got injured iirc.

Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Not really sure why he fell, but was a top 75 player on a lot of boards I saw. I think a lot of us wanted him when the punter was taken. Elite athlete. Superior production. 13 picks. 6 forced fumbles. 95 PBUs.
My favorite pick of this draft. Don’t mind the 4th next year swap for the 5th this year. Bird in the hand and you assume that 4th is a late one.

Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
I would’ve been happy with McCollum at our first 4th rounder. Should be good depth piece this year and possible replacement for Dean the year after if he develops.King Bootz wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 2:57 pm Knowing very little about the prospects in this draft and the guys we took, this pick seems to be the best we've made. Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
I don’t think any sane person expects our 5th round pick to be an All Pro. But we all saw what happened at corner last year. I would take my chances on a young guy with some rare skills than more snaps for Dee Delaney or Pierre Desir. I think we should sign a cheap vet and I like our CB depth over last year.Snake wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 3:23 pmThere’s a reason one of the top 10 freak athletes in the draft fell to the fifth round. Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Like everyone else here I love this pick especially for the value. If he is coached up well this kid has the tools to be special.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum

I removed the down vote because I don't remember down voting it.
But I'm going to down vote this post for your internet tough guy whining.
Re: Welcome Zyon McCollum
Well see, if it was accident I would of deleted that post, but since I can't now and your going to an ass, I'll never forgive you. The offer still stands. This isn't an internet tough guy act, I live by the stadium, where do you want to meet up?

You're the guy that wants to throw hands.
It's been about a decade since I had to, but if you want to step up, then step up.
