Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
Does anyone know when his press conference is? I’m curious to see if he’ll adopt the same offensive strategy as Coen or if he’ll introduce a different play style. I believe they’ll stick to the same approach as last year, which is why he was hired.

Re: Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
More info..
Liam Coen revealed earlier in the year that the team's third-down offense was commanded by Grizzard.
"Thad Lewis is in charge of the red zone, ‘B-Mac’ (Brian McClendon) is in charge of two-minute, and ‘Grizz’ (Josh Grizzard) happens to be in charge of third downs," Coen said in December. "Their ideas, plays, and thoughts and schemes is what does come to life as what you see on Sunday."
Grizzard's ideas, however, seemed to be exceptional. The Buccaneers were the NFL's very best third-down offense, converting on an impressive 51.11% of their third downs, which bodes very well for the future. Additionally, Grizzard served as Tampa Bay's pass game coordinator, and the Buccaneers were No. 5 in the league in yards per pass (8.0) and No. 4 in pass yards per game (246.7).
All that bodes well for Tampa Bay if Grizzard can continue those trends. And after serving as a quality control assistant under Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Grizzard may have a few other tricks up his sleeve as well.

He had what 1 year in our system - does that count as hiring internally?

They want to run a similar offense because it was successful so he just happens to be the smartest guy in room after Coen.

Like to see more run game evolution using 21. Rachaad kind of got phased out and I think that was a mistake. Utilizing he and Bucky simultaneously makes this offense even more dangerous.
McDaniel used that quite a bit in Miami with Mostert and Achane.

What is to stop Coen from being a blabbermouth to NFC friends.

Re: Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
I am pleased that we are going with a known commodity instead of an unknown, especially if this guy was the one drawing up our excellent third down offense.
My only concern is that he's a pass game guy, and Grizzard will either lean away from or elsewise ignore our rushing attack, which in my opinion would be a huge mistake. Building on our running game and finding ways to make it more dynamic is going to be a key driver for team success moving forward into next season.

I'm not saying we have to become the Ravens, and no other team can because no team has another Lamar Jackson at their disposal. But we were at our best offensively when we had the run game going with Baker killing it in the short to intermediate area. I think with Grizz, who's also a former WR coach, there will be an emphasis to feature that position in his offense.
We'll see.

The down field blocking this season was outstanding. I really hope we keep that feature in offense.Bootz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:21 amThis.Cheb wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 10:57 am I am pleased that we are going with a known commodity instead of an unknown, especially if this guy was the one drawing up our excellent third down offense.

I'm okay with the hire. He seems to have some good experience to build on.

Don't tread on me
Re: Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
Not to be that guy, but the constant "ums" and "uhs" would have been an immediate no from me, if not for his being "responsible" for 3rd downs. Maybe he's just not a good public speaker, but is brilliant at drawing up plays and getting guys to execute them... we'll see.

Let's hold off on making any judgments about the running game until after we hear his press conference.
Oh, those uh and ums thing, perhaps with more practice, he will improve his public speaking skills.

Re: Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
So you would give an immediate no for someone because they presented you with a limitation that has exactly zero to do with their actual job performance (pressers have nothing to do with job performance and in fact, are irrelevant to what happens on the field)__Chef__ wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:19 pmNot to be that guy, but the constant "ums" and "uhs" would have been an immediate no from me, if not for his being "responsible" for 3rd downs. Re: Josh Grizzard Bucs OC
Mayfield had some thoughts:
Don't click
I was thinking about it more, a play-caller needs to be quick on their feet adjusting to what the Defense is doing, and relaying those calls, clearly to the QB, in high-pressure, loud situations.
Not saying the guy isn't smart or doesn't know how to draw up plays like a top flight coordinator, but the ability to quickly identify the right play against a defense and clearly relay it is also a big part of the job. Not just 3rd down with multiple plays off to come up with the right answer, but every down in seconds.
Maybe football is his first language and the seeking, start, stop, umming goes away when he's in his playbook ...

The only negative about him is that he has never called plays before.
So did Dave Canales but it worked out well for him and he got the Carolina job a year later.
