An undersized interior defensive lineman from Pitt with juice for days who hopeful people think is the next Aaron Donald.
Taking players because they remind you of a player from that school is peak ******.
I hope he’s good.

Bowles going all in on D. Love this pick. Tenacious player with great technique and low center of gravity.

Spoiler alert: We're drafting Anton Harrison. Doesn't matter who's on the board, Licht still select him.
The Bucs draft has zero mystery to it due to how predictable Licht is.
Surprised?
Yes, very. Though Licht still stayed in character by knowing who his pick would be no matter what given how quickly we put the card in.
Just glad it was on someone with tremendous upside this time around.

You know what this tells me? That the Bucs braintrust tacitly admits that Logan Hall was a mistake.
This guy is our new 3-tech in nickel and dime, and a presumed starter as a 3-4 end.
Yeah, Hall has been invisible.

One of the few times I'm wrong and I couldn't be happier
Crazy we passed on Levis, but I'm just glad we didn't pick Harrison.
Kancey is pretty damn exciting as a prospect. He and Vea will be monsters.
This is a good exciting, not like watching Richardson figure out how to throw exciting, lol

Good player, don’t see the fit in the current D but who’s to say it won’t work out?

ROUND 1
* RD 1 (19): CALIJAH KANCEY (IDL). Absolute freakish in terms of explosiveness, motor, and the leverage he plays with. Pash Rush suite and playing with a rush plan is there. Because of how quick he gets off the ball, the target area for him is tiny and gives iOL fits. Should generate a ton of penetration, disruption, and holding calls at the next level. The major issue I see is that this doesn't solve our "light box" problem unless Bowles just goes with "eff it, he generates so much penetration and disruption that we can deal with the reality that when a double team finds him he's toast." But that almost surely isn't happening, so he doesn't give us that 2 x iDL light box versatility (which is why a player later like Mazi Smith might be the way to go). But he gives this scheme something its never had and he would be a massive asset in the Stunt/Twist game with his explosiveness and flexibility. He would absolutely draw iOL away from blitzing 2nd level players because of his suddenness and his threat to get up the arc even if his first step/move is lateral.
MUCH prefer the second one as well! Love the Kancey pick. A name we have not said nearly as much as he deserves. Actually, the entire iDL class is really underspoken for having guys who have some nice traits.
Good pick. Not Branch, but good pick.

Here's what I wrote about him in my Big Board post of the draft forum. He was in my 12-23 pick group entitled "Mixed Feelings":
"Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh. He would be in the running to be the best interior rusher on the team day one, but he gives up so much in the run game that he's an active liability. He should be a fulltime 4-3 undertackle, and we would ask him to be something else. Still, would trust Bowles and friends to make it work."

Glad we didn’t take a QB or reach for an Ot.
I’d have gone Nolan Smith but Kancey will do

First pick I've been excited about since AWJ and Wirfs. It's a good feeling being happy with your teams draft selection.

Wright seems like a lock to be a solid pro for a long time.
If you squint, you see a Tristan Wirfs clone.
I’ve been squinting at this team for decades now - sometimes it is the only way I can watch the game at all

Of course. He was not only a reach but we passed on trading with Green bay for an extra 2nd round pick to select him.
Licht has had two back to back abysmal drafts, let's hope this is the end of that trend

Too early to give up on Hall. All the best defenses have waves of pass rushers.

People trying to make this some sort of indictment on Hall... you know we need to start multiple DL right? Not even including rotation. Hall still has a large role to play here.

Does Licht go big dick and trade back into the first??? Maybe use that as a way to get White out of the building.

I just don’t like the pick. Felt we had bigger needs…if we wanted pass rush, coulda went Nolan Smith. We just went DL last year with our first pick. But I Hope it works out, I really do.

If we don’t have an elite DL it’s over. Licht has poured so many resources into it.

Hall is still young, it's not like we have anyone else on the DL right now
Don't have anyone like this kid (Kancey) anyway

Disappointed it wasn't Levis or an OT, but seems like a nice pick. Anytime you can add a DT that can pass rush is always a good thing.

Damn Seattle WR corps of Metcalf, Lockett and Ngigba. Now that team can draft. And they got Witherspoon earlier.

We did 3 years ago with Wirfs and it worked out.
You also need to be smart with the draft. We basically are saying with this pick “We fucked up last year.”
