acmillis wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 9:01 am I mean...that math maths, but I think you're over-valuing JJ. He was the 5th QB taken in his own draft just 10 months ago and has not taken a single snap in the NFL to "boost" his value. I disagree that the Giants would trade third overall for him. If they thought that highly of him, they could have taken him last year at 6th overall with their own pick, even with DJ on their roster (everyone and their mother knew Jones was/is trash).
Specifically to this point here, I don't think him being the 5th QB last year is relevant at all. It's possible that every team who took a QB ahead of him, had McCarthy rated as the 2nd best QB in the draft, behind the guy they liked/got. Meaning, Chicago could've had Williams #1 & McCarthy #2. Washington could've had Daniels #1 & McCarthy #2, etc. We don't know and never will know. We also don't know (and may never know), if or how the Giants rated McCarthy. I'm guessing they did some due diligence for the future, I think they all do, right?

Whether we all knew that Jones was crap or not, Jones just got a new deal like 1 year prior to this draft. I don't think the Giants were interested in drafting a QB. From the Giants perspective, Jones just won a playoff game coming off a year where he accounted for about 4000 total yards and & 22 total TD's in his first year with a new coaching staff and system. The following year, he got hurt and played in 6 games. If you saw enough of a player in 18 games one year to give him $40M a year, and it only took 6 games to make you change your mind... if I'm the owner, I'm firing you. To note, Jones got hurt 3 times that year... the first in W3, then again in W5 that caused him to miss 3 games, then when he came back in W9 and that's when he tore his ACL.

Khalil Mack 2018
Laremy Tunsil 2019
Jalen Ramsey 2019
Jamal Adams 2020

Were the most recent
Many more than I remembered. Thanks.
Me too. I remember someone saying Mack got 2 firsts a while back and my cousin is a Dolphin's fan... which is the only reason I remember Tunsil. I didn't remember the other too, I had to look them up.

I genuinely like the @Chef idea on the trade proposal. I’ll do it without hesitation.

Pewter Report came out today all but squashing the idea of trading for Garrett. Licht is going to let this DL flounder in the offseason with a mid-tier pickup, and given the lackluster effort Bowles used to find a DL coach, I can't say I blame Licht. Seems the team is throwing up the white flag for next year.

I think I'm all alone in thinking we need IDL, now if IDL are not worthy, then of course move on to something else. I'd like to be in the corner of a room while Tom Brady and Daniel Jeremiah talk about it for an hour.

Throwing up a white flag is a little dramatic. Garrett isn’t the only available option.

Is this IDL draft class better than last years?

That article he’s referencing had several viable options. It’s honestly a good year to need pass rush help.

You can't tell me you were hyped about the search for our new DL coach ... I swear Bowles happened to run into him around town:
"Hey, I recognize you! You're that coach from uhh ... where was that again? Oh yeah, that's it. Say, what're you doing next year? Oh still retired eh? Getting bored? Wanna come hang out at OBP?"

Strong is a pretty decorated coach.

So is Gruden, that doesn't mean I'd say it was a great idea for him to coach the OL.

'Waving the white flag' because you aren't impressed with the DL coach hire...

Super Bowl hasn't happened yet and we are in full blown offseason insanity mode already.

Honestly though I don't get it from Washington's perspective. I hope they do the deal because then they will just be a short term threat. It's just that if I was them I'd want those picks to build around JD whether WR or OL

As far as thinking our DL coach can't coach Miles Garrett?? Nobody is trading for him hoping to coach him up, he is already what he is going to be, a dominant player.

The only question around him is will the DC play him in a way that allows him to be Miles Garrett

If they surprise and bring in Garrett then sure. If the bring in a mid-tier JAG, who cares?

Would love Garrett, but is probably going to be too damn expensive. Would be happy if we got a Trey Hendrickson, signed Ward from the 9ers and continued with another solid streak of rookies.

2025 1st and 5th; 2026 2nd conditionally can become a 1st if he gets certain amount of sacks or reaches the SB and 4th, 2027 3rd.

Lets do it!

That contract and multiple picks would have crippled any team.

Shame on me thinking he was actually sincere about winning.

I guess Haslam said, “I’m not trading you. Here’s the offer. Take it or leave it.”

Garrett - “Where’s the pen?”

I doubt he would've gotten THAT deal elsewhere. THAT deal is astonishing.

I actually believe he wants to win. But money rules the world and no matter what anyone says EVERYBODY has got a price.
