Not so Rapid Reactions
Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
There was also a hell of a lot of jerseys being tugged all day with no calls. It was like 2004 out there.

I’ll be pulling up with popcorn for that breakdown.Nobody wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 9:24 pmI was not a fan of Canales brutally vanilla, Mid-Zone heavy run game, 12 personnel-heavy, Boot & Flood off playaction, pretty conceptually simple (and predictable) in the passing game offense.
Coen’s whole offense, his check system, his ubiquitous and versatile motion and dummy action, his layering huge suites of looks and plays off of both, his tendency to break tendency, his play sequencing, his Spacing passing game stressing the defense from -2 to 18 yard from one boundary to the other with all kinds of actions to open up receivers or compromise defender leverage… Even before you get to Coen’s playcalling, scripting, sequencing (which was all very good), concept-wise it was next level in contrast to prior. And exactly how to stress modern defense. It was/is miles beyond Canales offense.
I’ve tried my best to be patient with Grizzard. He’s had ample injuries on the OL and in the WR room. But we had a cavalcade of injuries last year as well.
We’re four games in now. That is enough time to look through the tape and draw some conclusions. We’ve definitely pivoted to being McDaniels-esque in the passing game this year with a chunk of last year’s core run game along with some McDaniels though, very importantly, without all of Coens’ motion suites layered in.
We aren’t nearly as successful on 1st and 2nd down as we were last year. As importantly, last year we rarely ever saw 2 unsuccessful plays in a row. We’re seeing that at a considerably increased rate this year. That is a huge deal for myriad reasons.
At some point later this week I’m going to break down some sequences from our four games which highlights the differences and our attendant struggles.
I hope that Bowles is open to firing Grizz if his offensive principles do not evolve.

Coen is a top 3 OC in this league. He isn’t being misremembered around here. The man is actually that good.Backside wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 9:37 pm Canales didn’t overly impress and I was very surprised he got a HC job. But his successors did have Bucky Irving who is a huge help in the run and short pass game. And the Oline has been improving since he was here (injuries aside)
Coen is being remembered with bias around here right now. He was not a flawless offensive genius. That said, he schemed things up much more effectively in general than Grizz has managed to do so far. And I’m disappointed we seem so determined to not continue doing what worked last year, more or less. People are remembering Coen more fondly because Grizz and the offensive execution so far this season are giving them reason to do so.
I’ll continue to bitch about lack of play action because it baffles me that we don’t do it way more often with this group of offensive players. We also need to see some easy concepts and routes drawn up that help keep the offense moving. We know this offense is very capable of both. We have yet to see a gameplan be a boon for us in a game this year. Everything looks overly difficult on offense. There are multiple reasons for that, but the play calling and offensive schemes are as big as any.

Do you mean OC specifically, like head coaches who also call the offense don’t count?Primeminister wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:49 pmCoen is a top 3 OC in this league. I mean OC as I don’t know how he is as a head coach. He could be a poor HC, but as far as offensively the man is one of the best.Backside wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 11:09 pmDo you mean OC specifically, like head coaches who also call the offense don’t count?Primeminister wrote: ↑Sun Sep 28, 2025 10:49 pm

Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
After listening to Baker here one thing occurred to me: The Buc’s in general generated a LOT of buzz this week. Lots was focused on Baker specifically. I think, as a team, they were unprepared at kickoff and for the first half, for the growth of the Eagles, from when we beat them last September to where they are today. I think the team went into today’s game sort of believing their hype and way too lackadaisical. As a result they seemed absolutely stunned at how nothing was working for them and how monstrous the eagle were playing.
From the beginning it appeared they did not take the Eagles a seriously as they should have taken the Super Bowl Champs. And that flatness bit them in the ass.
Having said all that,I would have loved, loved, loved to hear what was said at halftime - because whatever it was - they came out ready to rumble and almost pulled it off.
At least Baker is very clear on all levels what was going on and the adjustments that need to be made from the moment the ball is kicked off

Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
OK.
So, I am happy that the Buccaneers still had a chance to win despite Baker's bonehead decision on 1st and 10. Despite several uncalled holding/illegal contact calls. Despite a fumble that was NOT a fumble. In the past, these things would have led to a team that was blown out. This time, they were in the game despite being screwed by several calls. The fact that the interception should have been nullified by an obvious illegal contact and holding on Shepard was huge.
On to Seattle.

The Eagles got away with holding, DPI at an alarming rate yesterday. If I were the Buccaneers, I would file a complaint (if that's a thing), complete with videos of that shit. It was impactful to the game.Pirate Life wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 2:19 am

Drop you will, the ball. This is not the penalty you're looking for.
Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
I'm not surprised the punter got a kick blocked. He takes too many steps. I saw that in the Atlanta game and figured a blocked punt would be coming. Sucky time for it to happen. Time to bring in another punter.
Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
how they rallied to the tackles and were so downhill, it seemed like the intensity for them was a few notches higher than ours.
honestly, I think we took their best shot.. they were well prep'd for the blitz, played tough/aggressive D, zero turnovers, and % wise - the QB didn't put them in bad spots/behind the chains.
They won't be as clean or healthy if we meet again.
We (hopefully) will be healthy and more efficient (hopefully).

Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
Been sick and didnt see the game but from the sound of things the Eagles put it on NFL New York to call 27 penalties and they decided that would be a bad look, as it was we got 6 first downs from penalties so they must of made the decision to "just let them play".
12 PD's for the Eagles, I'll look at future Eagle games to see if the NFL addresses that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Who looked bad on our o-line and who gave up the 2 sacks?
Anybody hurt and going to miss Seattle?
Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
I said this in the game day thread.
We're a good team with injuries.
PHI is an elite team and handled business. There are levels to this.
That INT by Mayfield was a turrible, turrible decision, but I'll give him a pass as he's the only reason we're in this game to being with.
Even when we were scoring points in the 2nd half, I still felt that we were gonna lose no matter what. IMO, PHI is good enough to "turn it on" when they need to.
We made a few mistakes, they didn't make any. That'll make it hard to beat the Jets, much less the best team in the league.
These next three weeks are gonna be a complete nightmare (@SEA, vs SF, @DET), then we get a two-week reprieve (@NO, bye, vs NE), then hell comes back for a visit (@BUF, @ LAR), then a looong stretch against teams that look really bad right now.
So. we start 3-1, stumble after that for a while, then go on a streak? Sound familiar?
He is the active leader in getting punts blocked. Always been an issue with him. That being said, not sure yesterday’s is on Dixon as much as the line. Dude got through the middle fairly clean.
Re: Not so Rapid Reactions
Always good to sleep on a game. Helps with perspective.
The issues with Grizz and the offense have been documented so I won't go there. That said I dont think this game was nearly as close as people want to believe. 22 of our 25 points came off of somewhat freak plays. 2 70+ yard TDs after Baker bought himself time and improvised and the Eagles let up in coverage. A 65 yard FG & a 59 yard FG. And a gift of 2 points by the Eagles so they didn't have to punt. All of that and we never got closer than 8 points to them and 2 of those points again were gifted.
Basically took 4 miraculous plays just so we could be somewhat competitive. We couldn't sustain drives (3-13 on 3rd down/1-3 on 4th down). Couldn't stop shooting ourselves in the football(2 turnovers, blocked punt).
The defender who blocked the punt got held by us (which wasnt called) and still got through. But Dixon took all damn day to get that punt off.Pirate Life wrote: ↑Mon Sep 29, 2025 10:16 amHe is the active leader in getting punts blocked. Always been an issue with him. Were any changes made to the special teams o-line from the first blocked punt?
I can tell you’re a casual. You’re supposed to let the Seahawks think we are coming with a strategy before BOOM dropping Him nuts all over their faces.
Grizz sees those 70 yard bombs & is like “now why can’t we do that every play”
Well casually speaking the speaking if Grizz can cut the playsheet into about a quarter of the size it is now, we should be HIM all Sunday long. I want 80 yard plays.
